I hope so.

The current combination wasn't getting any better and to me it would be lunacy to keep that status quo hoping it would somehow get better.

I've been of the mindset that the 9ers need to give up on this season and get their young guys in to get them reps and to see what they have so they can have a plan on how to deal with it in the offseason.

For example maybe by the end of the year Brandon Thomas looks great at OG and that position becomes less of a dire need than previously thought.

Unfortunately because the way the Harbaugh situation was handled everyone's ego is on the line so instead of waiving the white flag on this season and using it as a means to build for future season they want to try to win now because the don't want egg on their face because Tomsula was supposed to be the next Steve Kerr and all.

Yep, we knew what Pears and Devey were coming in and knew they weren't going to get any better especially Pears who isn't going to given his age.

Yep LOL. The 49ers haven't really even utilized Ellington yet. Deandre White hasn't really sniffed the field as a WR. I doubt Smelter is going to go anywhere tis year even if he is active.

True, but it's hard to get Ellington playing time when he's straining the hammy every other practice. White needs a year in the weight room, he looks promising though. I could have sworn I had seen reports that Smelter looked right in training camp. If this offense can't get anything started against the Giants, what's the harm in seeing what the guy has to offer?

Smelter did look good in training camp, just started almost 3 weeks late. I hope we make some trades for draft picks and maybe Boldin is one of them to free up a spot.

Smelter might be looking good but between Kap, Oline, coaching, Playcalling, etc. The 49ers have gotten very little from our drafted WRs going back years
