My preference right now,
Muhammad Wilkerson - DE in the 34....
Bruce Irvin offers intrigue, maybe we can get him going?
Coby Fleener if he gets out
Courtney Upshaw... LOL yea I know

I say don't sign anyone & keep the comp' pick formula going.
If some good players get cut, I'd be interested.

I'm always wary of giving a CB from a team with a good defensive line his first big contract. Seems like buy-high kind of situation.

I'm a bit hesitant at the CB FA class... we're only 4 games in and I'm sure i'll have a different opinion by seasons end but right now I like our upside at CB and no real big money investment is in place yet....
Keep it up.

Charles Johnson is on IR/DTR. Alexander is out for the year. Hardy is gone. They were forced to trade for Jared Allen because their only DE left was Kony Ealy who has zero sacks.

That's true, but they do have a good inside rush, and they had a great DL the last couple of seasons.

Well, the Niners will certainly have the cap room. Wilkerson is a stud, Coby Fleener would be nice - I wanted the team to draft him in 2012, and Irvin coming to SF would not surprise me as Baalke considered drafting him 2012.

I'd avoid any FAs who weren't cut. Don't mess up the comp' pick formula.
I'd give Tank, Vance, Lemonier & Dorsey extensions. None of them should be very expensive. I'd hold off on Reid; he still has 2 years under contract after this season.

I am not really sure McDonald and Lemonier have earned anything close to an extension. What have they done? Tank too has been nothing more than a situational pass rusher - which for a 2nd round pick is not good. After this season they can exercise the 5th year option for Reid.

What do you mean they "haven't earned an extension"? That's an incomplete statement. They certainly haven't earned 100-million-dollar extensions, but if they had no value they wouldn't be on the team.
The fact that their values aren't very high is exactly why I would want to give 'em an extension. Small extensions. Like the one Ray McDonald signed a while back. That was a buy-low situation where the team got enormous value for a guy whose stock hadn't peaked yet.
And Ray got starter money. I'm not even talking about starter money here.

Lemonier has not done anything yet to even remotely get an extension. He doesnt even come close to the QB...McDonald I am still waiting to see, I would like more from him in the passing game, good blocker though, but again, you expect more from a 2nd rounder. Same with Tank.

If someone doesn't deserve an extension (at any amount), then he shouldn't even be on the team. If he's truly as bad as you say he is, the team would've simply cut him by now.
Every team needs cheap, veteran players for depth. Lemonier is a perfect, buy-low kind of situation. 23 years old still; hasn't had a lot of playing time. I'd keep him around.

This article says Branden Albert & Cameron Wake could be cut this offseason.
Albert might be all finished. He's been extremely injury prone. But he'll only be 31 next year. Would he be worth a gamble? Maybe as a guard?

Re: 2016 NFL Free Agency
Baalke has been unwilling to make big FA signings. Meanwhile Schneider boosted the Seahawks by signing Bennett and Avril. They also swung for the fences with the Harvin and Graham trades, though the first didn't really work out and the second isn't working out.
The jury is still out but letting Culliver and Cox walk, to play unproven young CBs, may also turn out to have been a mistake.
The front office may be a little too enamored of its own draftees to consider big FA signings, or thinking they could replace starters with the latest, cheaper draftees.
Meanwhile the biggest FA signing and trade this year have been Devey and Pears?

I get what you're saying but are the comp picks(at best a 3rd IIRC) really better or more valuable to a Wilkerson or a Fleener or whatever etc...
Wilkerson, IMO, is a big gamer and fills a real need for us. If the contract isn't payroll breaking, why not covet that kind of player for the sake of a comp pick?

BTW, GET Vance off the team... he's not reliable and I've had it with him lol.... not like it matters but this guy is not coming through... his former collegiate teammate is more reliable and impactful than he is and Vance is higher on our depth than the other guy.

I'll pass on dolphins for now...
No more injured concerned players for me.
Don't need another lackluster pass rusher at this time... IMO
