Re: 2015 MLB Playoffs Thread
the old timer, "baseball purists" are going on about how it was a baseball play and that players try to break up double plays all the time. Being no where near the bag and going for a player's legs is suspension worthy.

Re: 2015 MLB Playoffs Thread
I know some may think I'm being biased here, but I thought that was a dirty play. It should be illegal, but it looks like the rules of baseball somehow allow it. You can no longer charge a catcher who's fully armored but you can cleat and knee a SS jumping in the air.
For one, in my opinion, the rule should at least be that you must make an attempt to the plate. Utley was nowhere near. His clear intentions was to take Ruben out.
Fine. Whatever. But he didn't even have to tag 2nd? You can go in there with bad intentions and be safe without even tagging? What's the point of tagging then? Terry Collins was going to challenge, but, once again, the loophole wouldn't reverse the call.
Lastly, Ruben is out. Poor guy.
It just sucks that the Dodgers got their runs in right after that controversy. And broke our starting SS's leg.

That's an illegal play in Football, Hockey and Soccer. After banning plays at the plate it makes no sense to me that stuff like this is allowed.

Re: 2015 MLB Playoffs Thread
1. You shouldn't be able to review the neighborhood play. If you're thrown off the bag, you don't get the neighborhood play and it is reviewable.

But here's the Dodgers getting screwed on the neighborhood play about a month ago.
2. Sorry about Tejada and his injury but it's unfair to say Chase went after his legs. How was he supposed to know this kid was gonna try a spin move?

Lol. Most of them haven't even watched baseball in the last 22 years.

Didn't get to see the Astros game today, but pleased with the result! I'll check out the highlights in a bit.

Did not merit a 2 game suspension.

I don't care about either team, but that most certainly was a dirty play. It was a late slide right into the player's legs. He made no attempt to slide into the bag (he slid away from it just so he could hit Tejada).
He should have been suspended for the entire playoffs IMO.

Not the 1st late slide in the history of the MLB and it wont be the last.

Not even the 1st late slide by Utley this season, this was just a few weeks ago

I'm calling it now. There's going to be a rule change this winter. And rightfully so. You have to protect the players. That is just too dangerous.

Utley suspended for Game 3 and 4. He will appeal.
“After thoroughly reviewing the play from all conceivable angles, I have concluded that Mr. Utley’s action warrants discipline,” Torre said in a statement. “While I sincerely believe that Mr. Utley had no intention of injuring Ruben Tejada, and was attempting to help his Club in a critical situation, I believe his slide was in violation of Official Baseball Rule 5.09 (a)(13), which is designed to protect fielders from precisely this type of rolling block that occurs away from the base.”
