Would you rather see Magic win 20 or 40 games?

Post#1 » by Incognito76 » Mon Oct 12, 2015 4:44 pm

I get it that some people are tired of losing after few years but I personally think that Orlando should not focus on winning now but should focus on winning championship in the long run(we obviosly are not there yet). I don't think we should lose games on purpose but I think playing young players is best policy for young team like Orlando. Current players may be good enough in couple of years to make Orlando Magic team that fights for championship but they are not there yet. So I think it would be better for the team if Magic focuses on developing players by not being afraid to play younger players big minutes so they can fullfil their potential. With 2016 pick we could add talent to weakest position and later even make some trades to get best team possible.

So would you prefer to push for most wins possible and get maybe 8th seed or focus on developing talent by playing youngsters more and veterans as little as possible and lose some games that way?

By winning 20 games Orlando would be guaranteed to get top 5 pick, with some luck we would be able to get 1st pick.
By winning 40 games Orlando would get playoffs for few games but lose to first or second seed.

40. We're at a stage where our young players need to start experiencing playoff basketball.

Vuc, Dedmon, Nicholson, AG, Tobias, Mario, Fournier, Dipo and Payton are all young players with varying degrees of promise, but part of realizing your full potential in the NBA is competing in the playoffs, and between them they haven't played a single game in the postseason. Another year of winning 20ish games, missing out on the playoffs and picking high in the lottery will do nothing for them.

Can't do another losing season. Too many guys with talent on this roster to be near 20 wins again.

If anyone says 20 they're loony.
Favorite Magic players of all time:

Too many shots at the draft just outside of the range where we can get an elite player. Another top 5 pick in a weak draft merely adds another secondary star to the 6 we already have.

Might as well try to win.

It's not "some of us". It's one guy. The guy that started the thread. Address your complaint to him instead of rolling in here to toss a bomb at everyone.

Better yet, don't post at all until you want to contribute something valuable.

time to win... we've been patient enough. If winning this season destroys our chances at contending in the near future then that means we failed the rebuild and need to make major changes anyway.

You don't go from 25 wins to 60 wins unless you get a star player back from injury or do what Miami/Boston did with free agency/trades. At some point the losing has to end. You're players don't show up from the summer after winning 25 games and magically dominate the league. If that your line of thinking, you have no clue how basketball works.
I live rent free in your head. You know who you are :D

Not changing this sig until Magic win a championship. Started 6/26/2015.

If this squad (healthy) wins 20 games, then we're even further away from winning a championship than we were the day Dwight left.

That would mean Olapdio, Vic, Harris, Payton, etc. are worse now than they were as rookies! So no, I would not want to see all those losing seasons, trades, and lottery picks we've compiled post-Dwight result in a net negative 4 years later. That would be a crippling blow to both the franchise and fanbase as a whole.

Not true. The Thunder went from 23 wins to 50 wins in one season. Not saying we'll be winning 50 games, or 40 for that matter, I'm just saying your statement isn't accurate. They didn't dominate the league, they won 50 games and got the 8th seed, but that's still a 25 game improvement.
