“After thoroughly reviewing the play from all conceivable angles, I have concluded that Mr. Utley’s action warrants discipline,” Torre said in a statement. “While I sincerely believe that Mr. Utley had no intention of injuring Ruben Tejada, and was attempting to help his Club in a critical situation, I believe his slide was in violation of Official Baseball Rule 5.09 (a)(13), which is designed to protect fielders from precisely this type of rolling block that occurs away from the base.”

lol, sorry for not being clear about the fact that he was suspended in the Matt Holliday post. I should have mentioned it clearly.

Not even the 1st late slide by Utley this season, this was just a few weeks ago

I'm calling it now. There's going to be a rule change this winter. And rightfully so. You have to protect the players. That is just too dangerous.

My thing is…THERE'S A RULE FOR THIS!!!!11
WTH at ppl calling for another rule.

The only thing you can do at this point is add a penalty/ fine for doing what the base runner did because the umpire could have, BY THE RULES, called Utley AND Kendrick out if he saw the play that way.

The MLB is pretending they're against collisions knowing there's 10 times more break up slides in the MLB than collisions at the plate and knowing damn well, they aren't going to out law all collisions at 2B.

They'll outlaw sliding late or/and making no attempt at the bag. if there's already a strict rule for that, they'll enforce it more and start fining more.

I'm disappointed we let them see Familia with such a big lead. Sadly, any other reliever would've allowed more runs.

The relief pitching is a joke. You almost have to assume they'll allow at least 1 run in an inning.

I thinking ahead here, but I thought next year when we get Wheeler back, we'd trade one of our 5 young guys. But now I say keep them all, hopefully make the playoffs again, and one of them goes to the pen to setup Familia.

Why do that?
You can deal either one of those guys, get a nice return (bats…Cespedes may not re-sign) and get quality bullpen arms as throw ins.

lol

Wheeler is gone. Mets already showed what they'd take for him. That price can and will be met or exceeded this winter.
Sorry….probably will be met by Friedman and Farhan if they don't go all in on Sonny Gray.

but all that is premature.
we have a game to play tonight.

Now that the Cardinals are out we are guaranteed to see a team win that hasn't for a while.

All the teams left haven't won a championship for at least 20 years.

In the interest of fairness the team with the longest drought should win it all first, imo. :D
