THE STANIMAL. Rookie season watch.

Post#1 » by zeebneeb » Tue Oct 13, 2015 1:30 pm

I figured seeing as how we all now have a certifiable crush on our shiny new rookie we have a thread celebrating his highs, and at some point having level headed discussions of his inevitable lows. I'll be updating my initial post keeping track of all his games, and overall averages throughout the season so fans, and fellow Realgm people's can just click, and check. I'll also try and include links to highlights of each game so keeping up to date, and then reviewing a performance will be fun, and easy!

If Stanimal starts and plays 30 mpg, I'm saying he'll average 16 pts, 4 rebs, 3 asts, 1 stl, 1 blk on 45% fg 40% 3pt and 75% ft and he'll be in ROY talks.

where's the new SJ video?
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

UPDATED. Added advanced stats (even though I really don't understand them) and a few other things.

Also I won't post everytime I update. Last night I just forgot about the thread. Won't happen again.

So sometimes there are not going to be highlights of stanley if his game is poor or for some other reason. This marker ■ will indicate if it's a team highlight.

Top 10 Rookie pre-season analysis

http://www.nba.com/magic/news/film-room-scouting-rookies?utm_source=orlando%20magic&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Scouting%20Rookies&utm_term=video

Stanley Johnson

STRENGTHS: Extremely strong, more versatile than advertised (balanced shot selection), willing to battle in paint against anyone (averaging 5.1 points in paint per game), initiates and absorbs contact well (24 FT attempts in seven games), adequate athleticism, effective in transition (like a train going down the railroad), decent 3-point shooter (40 percent from distance), decent rebounder

WEAKNESSES: Not a terrific finisher (shooting 38.5 percent from field), foul prone (23 fouls in seven games), more likely to try and draw foul rather than escape defender for cleaner shot, loses his balance occasionally on drives to rim, streaky shooter (only 1-for-6 on attempts between 10 and 14 feet from basket).

His finishing ability inside is the biggest knock on SJ so far. He's not necessarily finishing well, and hopefully it'll get ironed out as he gets craftier.

Definitely. He has missed a lot of relatively easy shots right around the rim. I think he is a little spastic right now and ends up throwing up some semi-wild shots and hoping for a foul call that isn't really there. Hopefully this is something experience will fix as he calms down and figures out how to best get his shot off in the paint.

Final preseason stats are up alongside all highlights. Pretty good preseason numbers for our rook and quite a few fantastic plays. Now on to the regular season!

He's athletic enough. Combine that with a solid understanding of the game, fierce determination/competitiveness, truly remarkable strength, and Stanley is a load. He'll have to pay his dues, but Stan is going to be okay.

Yeah, he's not an elite but a solid athlete which is all you really need if you got great fundamentals.

I'm not really convinced hyper athletes are the cure for this team to trend upwards anyways. We need guys that are consistently willing to play team ball and have great understanding of the game.
