Who will start at PF opening night? POLL

Post#1 » by Magic_Johnny12 » Wed Oct 14, 2015 12:44 pm

As the poll states, who do you think will start along side Vuc at PF on opening night?

Also if not the same, who would you like to start at PF opening night and why?

Personally I would love to see Harris start at PF with the exception that Aaron Gordon starts at the 3 :droop:

Reasoning - I feel as Harris and Gordon combo would work beautifully, Harris lacks the ball handling skills a SF needs in todays game and could stretch the floor out with Gordon mainly handling the ball (when it's not in Payton/Dipo hands) on offense but has improved his post game and would be better suited in the post/stretching the floor. Gordon should be defending the Lebron's/Durants of the game not Harris and has shown a vast improvement in his shooting and driving ability. I say give this kid a starting role.

but knowing Skiles and his tendency of playing his veterans, we're more than likely going to see Frye start :banghead:

If we're serious about being a top 5 defense, I don't see how there is any way you can start Frye next to Vucevic. It might have to be Dedmon unless we can find a way to make it work with Tobias alongside Vuc and AG at the 3.

i dont think we are calling them PF and SF. I think Skiles will roll out HArris and Gordon and just call them forwards

I also think Gordon and Harris are the starting forwards. Who is the "power" forward is a little debatable. On offence Harris could be the PF and on defense they cold with. Or they could switch both in game.

I'll guess... Frye will start for a few weeks, the team will suck, then he will play Aaron.

That allows him as the coach to let Aaron get back to top shape and drill him on defense without throwing him out there to flounder. Starting him and then trying Frye out when the team sucks wouldn't be the natural order of things and might make the players disillusioned.

^ Totally made up speculation

My hope is Gordon/Harris as our starting forwards, even though I love Gordon and Dedmon playing together (blocks for days!)

Frye is healthy and looks better this year, he wasnt that bad last year either and he understands the game better than any other option we have at PF, I think he will start and Aaron will be the first sub in.

I also wouldnt mind seeing Aaron at the 4 but Frye's shooting ability is key for our starting unit unless Payton loses his starting spot.

Your poll is bad and you should feel bad! If you're gonna hate on Tobias, Frye, Nicholson, and dedmon, at least hate on Aaron too. For instance - it could say "My haircut is worse than Brian scalabrines complexion" Aaron Gordon. That would work for me!

Really depends. Can Frye take advantage of being a stretch four with Payton at the point? I think you need two capable 3 PT shooters on the wings in order to play some horns to either open up the post or send shooters to the weak side for open 3's. I don't think you can do that with Payton. So imo, if Frye is starting then I think he's paired up with Watson, otherwise you're not taking full advantage of his ability to stretch the floor from the 4 spot. I think that opens up the floor for Harris and Vuc as well. Of course that depends on Skiles's comfort level with where our team defense is.

If Payton is starting, which I think he will be, then I think you run with AG. In that scenario I think they can focus on a strong defensive start with really good offense off the bench. I think they can really score the ball with Fournier, Henzonja, Frye, and Watson coming off the bench with Dedmon anchoring the defense. I think the floor is going to be wide open with 4 guys on the court.

Obviously there will be times when players are having an off night and I think Skiles will adjust accordingly butI think the SL will be
Payton
Dipo
Harris
AG
Vuc

Vučević and Frye coupled to be the deal-last-the-worst PF-C tandem on defense. My question to you: do you believe that a defensive minded coach will start a PF that was horrible on defense when coupled with a given Center?

Skiles said anyone can be a good team defender. Maybe he's crazy enough to try.

Frye and Vuc arent the most athletic frontcourt so their inability to rotate quickly and defend the rim after defensive breakdowns hurt us last year, mainly because our perimeter defenders couldnt stay in front of their guys.

If Zaza and Ilasova frontcourt could lead the Bucks to the 2nd best defense in the NBA I dont see why Vuc and Frye cant get us to a top 10 defense assuming the rest of the guys improve under Skiles.

If Frye starts at PF then that is already strike 1 against Skiles IMO

I think it will be: Payton | Oladipo | Gordon | Harris | Vucevic

But it would be awesome to see an experiment of: Payton | Oladipo | Gordon | Dedmon | Vucevic ...establish an intense defensive tone to the game and then gradually add offense.

I wouldn't mind, but no way they are going to bench Vuc.
