Glad we avoided Rondo?

Post#1 » by lakersforever55 » Tue Oct 13, 2015 8:34 pm

I was pretty happy we didn't waste our money on Rondo in July but just read this and not so sure anymore. If it's him or Lou Williams should we have tried with Rondo?

Oh yes very glad we dont have him. Would have stolen minutes and time from all our young talent that need developing.

Extremely glad. On the wrong side of injuries, attitude problem, huge holes in his game and even the defense he "prided" himself on in recent years wasn't there. Product of playing behind 3 hall of famers.

What's the over/under on how many games it takes the Kings to have a pg controversy?

If Mitch liked Okafor I would have loved to give either Rondo ro D-Wil buy out a chance. Hibbert was a great signing.

I still dont get why some Lakers fans are so enamored with Rondo. He's a good playmaker and a liabiltity everywhere else on the floor offensively.

Played pretty well last night. You never know with him though, he's moody as hell.

Aside from having serious shortcomings to his game, he requires too much ball dominance, very difficult to integrate him with a youth movement.

Clarkson & Russell are PG's... Not a good match once Russell was selected... The real questions is Stanley Johnson... The Lakers would have picked him at #4 or #5 & he is a BEAST... Clarkson, Kobe, Johnson, Randle & Hibbert...

Only chance Stanley Johnson would have made sense for the Lakers is if they traded down. He'll be a solid player and he's shown more in the preseason than in his collegiate career on offense but teams that pick 1-3 are not looking for a base hit, they are looking for the home run.

Apparently, he's already clashing with Karl too... As much as George Karl strikes me as a sarcastic prick much of the time, I can't imagine what Rondo's relationship with Scott would be, especially with Clarkson and Russell nipping at his heels...

I'm really happy with our rotation at the 1 right now. We could use maybe a little help at the 2 and 3 and maybe a backup C, depending on cuts... Otherwise I think we're doing pretty well unless injuries... Need to give our core a chance to gel and show what they have.

You're implying that front offices don't have their own minds, like they are bound to the latest draft rankings.

According to everyone, there was supposed to be no way that Winslow went behind Johnson, but, too many, Detroit reached.

In reality though, they simply got their guy.

Unless a guy comes completely out of nowhere (a projected mid-second rounder and you've got a top three pick), pre-draft rankings are never an excuse for missing on a guy.

For the Lakers, after Towns, my guy was always Myles Turner, so by no means am I implying that the Lakers whiffed.

I'm only saying that you get your guy, the guy you like the best -- draft rankings be damned.

Also: It's hella hard to trade back. Even more reason to get your guy.

You are putting words in my mouth and as far as my interpretation of the English language goes there is nothing in what I wrote implying that the Lakers followed draft rankings blindly or do not have their own minds.

It was clear that the Lakers never really thought either Stanley Johnson, Winslow or Myles Turner were in the same tier of talent for a #2 pick and they weren't prepared to pass on a potential franchise player for a slightly worse player who might be a quality starter, which is why they never even worked them out. To be frank, no team picking in the lottery did.

tbf Stanley was always a better prospect throughout the year than WInslow. Winslow's stock jumped throughout the tournament.

Don't get too excited fellas. I think there could be a trade in the mix especially with how Rondo is getting along with G.Karl.

I'm thinking Sacre, Kelly, Young, picks etc for Rondo b4 the allstar break? I just have a funny feeling - Rondo will be happy playing with Kobe and I actually still think he'd be a good fit - call me crazy it's just my gut instinct.

That trade isn't happening, I think Rondo is getting along with Karl fine and I have a feeling we want to start Russell right away, no way is Rondo coming off the bench for Russell. He will be a free agent after this season the Lakers can go after him then.

Of course. Even in his prime he couldn't lead an elite offense. His assist numbers are misleading. He has a massive usage rate, and passes up dunks and layups to pad his assist numbers. The Celtics were always bottom 1/3rd offensive teams, despite having KG, Allen, and Pierce.

I wouldn't be fooled by his pre season play. He even showed flashes as a Maverick.

Honestly i wanted to laugh in the face of any Laker fan who wanted this scrub on this team and even thinking anything above the MINIMUM wasn't overpaying for him. Especially the ones who still pushed for him after we drafted Russell, thinking he'd "mentor" him into being a better player. More like hold Russell down as much as possible to secure his job, allying with Kobe to do the whole old vets vs young bucks locker rancor most likely.

He's gonna get exposed bad for what he is, and odds are good either Rondo knocks Karl the **** out or DMC chokes this lil bitch out for being a punk.
