I thought he may have been half kidding, but it doesn't do his new coach (who has his own reputation for not getting along with some of his players) any favor.

Sometimes we get too caught up in words. If anyone is viewed as a problem it's Rondo (see most of the posts in this thread), so its more likely he was referencing his reputation.... Or maybe both? But certainly his joke wasn't just about Karl.

Rondo's joke was not much different than Curry's apology. Different topics, but all troll.

The early responses in this thread are hilarious to look at in hindsight.

Here's what to think:

Rondo has the most deadpan delivery imaginable and was waiting for a followup question that never came from a rookie reporter in over his head. Thats why it looked real.

I am so hoping that this is legit. I want this campfire to start to really burn. #LeaguePassSac here we come.

This morning on the local morning sports radio show they were saying Rondo was most likely trolling the media because someone asked a stupid question so he gave a stupid answer. An answer the media is just waiting to pounce on. Y'all been trolled. Even so the radio guys (Carmichael Dave) was saying how Rondo still should not be making these comments even if he is joking since it's gunna catch fire and create unwanted drama.

LOCAL guys just trying to put a positive spin for the LOCAL fans....what else would they do at this time of the season ?

It is early so I don't put too much stock in this...YET. But the LOCAL fans are already out if force to defend an already volatile situation !!

It was a joke that Rondo has been using since July. He said he was thrown out of practice after getting into it with Karl.

Yeah, Carmichael Dave's word means little to me really, I mean there may be truth to it but dude is a homer. On the other hand Bill Herenda and Grant Napear' word holds more weight in my book.

I was hyped when Rondo came to Dallas. He was genuinely worse than Jameer Nelson and then quit on his teammates in the playoffs. On court, he was genuinely dreadful, we are talking DREADFUl. On both sides of the ball.

He's done. But still has that star entitlement.

He will be a negative for the Kings. Anyone thinking otherwise is deluding themselves.

Have you watched him play this preseason? He is not done.

I was sure the media and the Mavs were deluding themselves when they thought the Rondo trade would take the Mavs to the next level.... it wasn't hard to see that wasn't going to work.

Rondo is a train wreck.

Even if you are having some issues, as long as you can work together despite, it doesn't matter

It will be good if he was just kidding.
If he was serious, there would be a lot of negative attention on the team, but if he was just joking around, then it will build extreme levels of camaraderie and additional positive attributes shall also be bestowed upon the Kings as laughter is the best medicine.
But if he wasn't kidding, then no laughter medicinal benefits will be received.

Rondo can't get along with any coach now?

I know Rondo worked out terribly for you guys but he's looked great in preseason and think he will be far from a train wreck this year. I get why you would think that though.

hundreth wrote:Karl is exactly the kind of coach you don't want to pair with Rondo. Karl is an egotistical dbag who tries to force his players into specific roles instead of motivating them.

With a player like Rondo, you can't bully him into doing things your way. He's too smart for that. If you want to get the most out of Rondo, you need to give him some degree of creative freedom, otherwise he will get bored and complacent. This is why he got along well with Doc Rivers. Doc gave him enough freedom to be himself, but there was a mutual respect where Rondo wouldn't cross certain boundaries.

If you want a PG who simply follows the system and doesn't stray, you are wasting your time with Rondo.

Ummm, that's not actually true. One thing Karl does as well as any coach is devise his schemes to fit the personnel he's given.

Hearing that Rondo's comments in the locker room last night were tongue and cheek. Should had clarified, but he thought it was understood.
