Hoping the Eagles tank and Maryland can make a run at Chip Kelly, but he'll probably take the USC or Texas job before considering the Terps.
There is too much football talent in the DMV area to not be a bigger threat. I'm not saying they should compete with Ohio State or Michigan but they should be able to occasionally win 9-10 games like they did under Fridge.

Chip Kelly did okay at Oregon but a LOT of brothers who were passed on by the Eagles do not like Chip Kelly one bit.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Doesn't matter if people like him or not if he gets wins.
Its not gonna happen anyway. Kelly may not even leave Philly and if he does, he'll likely be persued hard by USC.

Big Ten Recruiting: Maryland lands complete-back in Funk
Maryland landed a complete running back on Friday in the form of Damascus (Md.) High standout Jake Funk.
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Funk is having a terrific senior season including a 257-yard rushing performance which included four touchdowns in a win over a good Quince Orchard team.
Damascus is 7-0 and Funk is a big reason why.
• Funk has some speed, ran a 4.63 second 40-yard dash laser over the summer at the Washington D.C. Nike Football The Opening Regional with an impressive 4.19 shuttle and 37-4 inch vertical leap. Funk is definitely a plus athlete.
• Funk is a complete back. He can carry between the tackles, he can catch the football, he can block, a very accountable player that will help teams win on the next level.
• Funk is very smart, a 4.7 GPA high test score type of young man.
• Good bloodlines. Funk’s father played at Penn State.

Terps Tip Off Big Season at Magic Maryland Madness
The most anticipated Terrapins basketball season in over a decade unofficially tipped off on Saturday night, a Maryland Madness event with a magical twist headlined by magician J.P. Wilson and of course, the men’s basketball team, which scrimmaged for 10 minutes to cap off the night.
For the spectators in the stands, it was their first glimpse of the new-look team. The hype for the season began before last year’s ended, when Diamond Stone committed in March, and continued to build throughout the summer. First it was preseason Big Ten player of the year Melo Trimble deciding to come back for his sophomore season. A few weeks later Jake Laymanalso put the NBA on hold for one more season in College Park. Then Rasheed Sulaimon announced his intentions to enroll at Maryland as a graduate student.
The players, old and new, appeared just as excited on Saturday night to get out in front of the fans for the first time as the fans were to see them. When Mark Turgeon was handed the microphone at center court, he announced with pleasure that season tickets are already sold out. The crowd, which was more enthusiastic and approving of the product than a year ago at the same time, let Turgeon know their appreciation.
“
These fans are so passionate about Maryland basketball and I love it,” said junior power forward Robert Carter Jr., who sat out last year after transferring from Georgia Tech. “Just being able to step out here on this court is amazing.”
Although they’ve already practiced ten times prior to Saturday, and midnight madness events have turned into more of a pep rally than an actual practice, the scrimmage turned out to be fulfilling. The players played defense -- the final score was 12-8 in favor of the gold team -- and the added talent on the floor was on full display from the beginning; Carter Jr. scored the game’s first bucket on a right-handed hook shot.
The depth of the team was apparent from tip-off. Both starting lineups featured enough talent to compete in the Big Ten by itself. The “black” team was led by Carter Jr., Stone and Layman with Jared Nickens and Jaylen Brantley in the backcourt, while the “gold” team was anchored by Trimble, Sulaimon and Damonte Dodd. Dion Wiley and Michal Cekovsky filled out the remaining two spots.
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Really good article at Testudo Times... An interview with CoachTurgeon.
He gives rare insight on recruiting, and specifics on Sulaimon and Stone coming to UMCP.

TT: We mentioned Rasheed. Given the tough way that things ended for him at Duke, it must have been at least something that required a lot of thought for you, and a lot of care. What is your approach when you have a player who you want to add to your program and you believe he's a good person, but you've got those circumstances? How did you approach bringing on Rasheed?
MT: One, I based it on my relationship with him and his family. I knew he was a good kid. I knew he was raised the right way. I've watched him since seventh grade, his parents raise him and his sister, Raven. But I still had to do my due diligence. We did a lot of work on it. You know, Rasheed wanted to be a part of our team a long time ago, before it was announced, but we had to do our due diligence. But after I did that, I felt comfortable that he's a kid who can fit into our program, that he's a young man I can help and help him be successful.
TT: It seems – and not just with Rasheed coming in, and obviously Diamond – it seems like it must be a little easier to sell recruits on coming to Maryland now, given everything that's gone on. Is that true? Is it any easier to bring people in?
MT: It's really hard to recruit. Diamond was a four-year deal now. We recruited him from the day I took the job. [Assistant coach] Bino Ranson said, "There's a big kid in Milwaukee, you've got to go see him." I said, "Really? He's a freshman. I don't want to go see him," and I'm glad I did. So that was a four-year commitment. And Sulaimon was a relationship thing. He trusted me, his parents trusted me and Coach [Dustin] Clark, the assistant. It is hard to recruit. We put work in. We got lucky with Rasheed because of a relationship, but it's hard. So we'll keep battling. Hopefully, because we've had a good team last year and hopefully we'll have a good team this year, it's going to allow us to continue to get good players.

I remember wayyy back in the day (when I was a U of MD student) sitting in the stands at Cole Field house watching the team practice - back when Buck Williams and Albert King were the stars - Boomer Esiason and Jess Atkinson (the kicker) were wandering through the stands playing catch with a football - that's how uncrowded the stands were even though basketball was HUGE at Maryland - long before there was internet. I was a freshman - and this was sports valhalla - everything seemed larger than life. I think that feeling came back when Steve Francis came to Maryland with a very skinny kid named Juan Dixon. And now it just might be coming back again.

Should be a fun season for the Terps. Gotta AT LEAST make the Sweet 16 or I'd be pretty disappointed, but I think they got a legit shot at the Final 4.

Sat right behind Boomer one game. I thought he was the epitome of a not bright jock. Maybe he just clowned around much. Seems very serious now.
Sat next to (then Flint Hill prep star IIRC) Dennis Scott at another game.
Was larger than life. Bias was friendly but I was way too nervous and in hero worship mode the times I saw him on campus. Was shocked/honored he spoke to me once. I wasn't on UMCPs campus long but had memorable times.
Chuck Driesell was real cool.
Albert married a girl I went to HS with. Buck Williams, Bernard King and others attended the wedding ceremony I very technically was a part of. Best memory of Albert was he passed me the ball and let me do most of the scoring in two on two vs my friends, twin brothers of the bride. Great guy, very reserved back then, Albert.
Bias from all I observed was free spirited and outgoing. Might have been better off without a few of his close friends that I read about. He had all the potential in the world but bad associates.

I just want the Terps to advance to the Final Four.
I'm scared the expectations might be too high.
