Drummond has the opportunity to make a tremendous impact in the league. His natural strengths (rebounding, size, strength, and agility) are an uncommon blend for guys his height and weight. My concern is always his mental makeup. His propensity to hang his head hinders his ability to take that next step. His got to be more in the moment and engaged in the game especially on defense. I think it will click for him. The guys around him will have a significant hand in keeping him engaged.

If Drummond plays more minutes now in this system with these players he will absolutely be and all star. Having seen the starting group(s) now it's clear as day he will have more rebounding opportunities then ever before, as well as more offensive putbacks opportunities.

So his current per 36 will actually be higher then they currently are. (19.4 14.4 per 36 in preseason)

Drummond's scoring is going to go up this year. Way up.

I've always liked the Moses Malone comparison to Drummond and if you look at their stats at the same ages they're eerily similar, and continuing to play out that way this year.

Malone's first year in the NBA at 21:
13.2 pts, 13.1 rebs, 2.2 blks on 48% FG in 30.6 mpg

Drummond at 21:
13.8 pts, 13.5 rebs, 1.9 blks on 51% FG in 30.5 mpg

Malone at 22:
19.4 pts, 15.0 rebs, 1.3 blks on 50% FG in 35.7 mpg

Drummond at 22 in the preseason per 36:
19.4 pts, 14.4 rebs, 0.7 blks on 53% FG

Yes its just preseason, but he isnt doing anything out of the ordinary to make you think his current play wont continue in the regular season. He is just playing his normal game and getting some more opportunities on offense.

If Dre can duplicate Moses 2nd season this year numbers wise, we will all be very happy. Moses avg 25 & 18 the year after by the way. Dre is on a good career arc.

I think consistency is the big thing for Andre this year for his All-Star consideration. He needs to keep the fouls down and come out with strong performances out of the gate unlike last year (since all-star is based on first part of the season performance). I don't see a reason why he would struggle early on now with Josh Smith and Moose gone. As long as they stick to the PNR offense and not rely too heavily on his post game right away, I think he will be in the all-star game. I'm thinking 17pts 14 rebs 2 blocks will get him in.

for me his big games need to lead to wins for the Pistons. Thats how someone becomes deserving and makes the all star team.
