2016 Small Forward Search

Post#1 » by WVlakerfan » Thu Oct 15, 2015 12:22 pm

Not a lot of news or anything going on so i thought I'd start a conversation about what small forward we should target. Try to be realistic.
Preamble: Durant is the obvious choice if healthy i'm more interested in other ideas.
I'd say Demar Derozen is probably the best available option to me with a caveat of Harrison Barnes depending on extension talks end up. Not a whole lot else out there unless we take a chance on Batum who is a little less flashy but probably better defense. I don't foresee a trade happening this season to get one because are only assets are our core 3 or randle clarkson and russel. Any ideas?

no Demar.

Batum is nice. Any 3 n D SF will be nice. We already got so many scorers.

My only question mark with Batum is health. It would be nice to get some European ball movement into the starting lineup i think he is a little underrated as a playmaker as well.

Lakers need to stay clear away from Demar Derozan. Dude can't stretch the floor and is a bit of a chucker.

Demar is a Kobe level ball stopper without the skill. On a per minute basis Clarkson matched his output last season.

so in your opinion is would it be better to wiff in free agency rather than pick him up? I understand he may not be the best fit but he already has a relationship with nick young and he is a California native and has been underpaid for the last 2 years. I would much rather find somebody like MKG but he is restricted and lakers refuse to take chances on RFA's.

This is probably the second time in one week someone said "He's got a relationship with Nick Young" as an excuse to sign a player. I mean am I missing something here? Hasn't Mitch been regretting that contract he offered Nick Young ever since the ink went dry on the paper? Lakers probably called every team in the league over the summer to offload him and ended up not finding a single taker.

Often times not signing the wrong player is much better than signing someone and atleast that's one thing I have a ton of faith in the front office to do right.

need an ariza/metta/battier type guy. someone who doesnt need to score but can hit the 3 when open and play lockdown defense. a 3 and d basically. could be a.brown but too raw. not sure who else out there fit the bill.

not a 3 and d guy but durant would be my first choice if given the chance.

MKG already inked a extension a few weeks ago.

just because the lakers dont sign DD, doesnt mean theyd "wiff" in free agency

players id easily take over him in 2016 FA
- chandler parsons (theyre going to command the same contract, but Parsons is a much better of the ball player)
- Jeff Green (can get him for an affordable contract, a good 3rd or 4th option to our line up)
- Batum
- Barnes
- Gerald Henderson (another affordable pick up, not yet a threat from the outside but getting better, plus hes a good defender)
- Aaron Afflalo
- OJ mayo (not a 3, but should be considered for a bench scorer that can be paired with lou, granted we get rid of young)

Levity i was not saying missing out on DD was a wiff i was asking if he was the only one that didn't resign with his respective team would it be better to pass on him rather than offer him a contract.

I have high hopes that the FO will eventually land a SF via trade sometime during the season.. Like someone else mentioned the team is probably trying to collect assets by trying to sign players on rookie Ks with potential and then use them as trade filler.

I would rather the lakers sign no one than sign demar derozan to a lucrative contract

Anthony Brown was a steal in the draft. If he has a good rookie year he could be part of the answer at sf. Combine him with a guy like Gerald Henderson and the 3 spot could be set

Anthony Brown does show promise as a 3d wing but that would make 4 starters drafted to the same team in 2 years with 2 being second rounders. Statisticaly speaking that is almost unheard of. Mitch would be a legend.

You guys are slaggin DD just a bit much here. He's actually quite good, just not suited to be "the" guy. But as a second option? Awesome. Makes his living on long twos, as well as anyone in the league. Stat heads don't like it (and people who only listen to stat-heads like gospel), but people who understand spacing do. He makes his living in the hardest area of the court to do so. It's almost odd he's not a better three ball shooter, but it really does open up the inside and the perimeter.

I think if the Raptors' fanbase actually appreciated what they had with him, he'd be heralded much more.

Batum would be nice if we had some pieces around that we can get him and he can be a piece in a contender or a decent team, unfortunately we don't have that, we only have our youth at this stage, so if not durant, then all aboard the tank for ben simmons
