Dallas is going to be pretty bad in the west. They might keep their pick (Top 7 protected). But that's alright because it just turns into a Top 7 protected pick next year.

Yep - would alleviate some of the young player glut we'd be facing next year too.
Though if Dirk and D-will hang on to whatever they have left physically for another year and Wes and Parsons make their full recoveries plus free agent signings and a high lotto pick, the 16/17 Mavs might be a playoff team. A lot of ifs though

After getting a good look at most of the teams in the preseason, I am convinced that Brooklyn is the 2nd worst team in the NBA on paper. Knicks, Magic, Nuggets, Wolves, and Blazers are all better. The only question is if those teams decide to tank after the all-star break, but regardless, I am expecting a bottom 5 finish for the Nyets.

that's just it. It really depends on how the first 25 games go for some teams. Sacto for example. They have made a big push on being a playoff team this season. They need to get into the playoffs. But if for some reason things don't go as planned and they are 8-17 through 25, then that team is likely to implode and start selling off players like Boogie, Rondo, and Gay.
Dallas has playoff aspirations with D-Will-Matthews-Parsons-Dirk-Zaza...That's an injury plagued team right there that could sink fast. And if they do, that's a proud franchise that'll want to be a player in free agency (Durant, etc), so having a nice Top 5 pick would be a nice ploy to trade for another top player as well (Parsons/Top 5 pick to team X for player X type of thing).
All the Celtics can do is focus on the Celtics. The rest will work itself out. The BK, Mavs picks will be fun for us fans to track. But even still it's a waste of our energy and emotions because as we've learned in the past on lottery night, you don't have to be the worst team in the league to get the top pick.
I'd love to see BK finish as 1 of the 5 worst teams....and Dallas finish in the lottery but outside of Top 7, so we keep their pick. That gives us ping pong balls....that's all we can hope for

I think it depends on the draft class for next year. If it is not as deep as this year, I would prefer to get the pick this year..
Even if we get their pick this year, we have options as far as what we want to do with it. We could trade it for an established player, package picks to move up, and/or trade it for a future pick

The Nets say they have requested waivers on forward Quincy Miller, guard Ryan Boatright & center Chris Daniels.
Bobby Marks @BobbyMarks42 45m45 minutes ago
$50k and $75k cap hit for BKN with the Miller and Boatright waivers. Will go into the @nbadleague pool if not claimed.
Should leave them right around ~$500k under the tax, could be slightly less. Will make it difficult to add guys if they sustain numerous lengthy injuries, since they don't have much in the way of small assets to ship off bad salary.
Really very few expirings, either.

I'd love my Mavs been awfully bad, tanking and getting a top7 pick, is not gonna happen, we are going to be sneaky good especially offensively, Carlisle has pieces to do what he likes, the players are team first guys, and they all can do a bit of everything, protecting the paint and rebounding is going to be a weakness, but unless everybody goes down and we suffer a ton of injuries we are going to be around 50% and send a late lotto pick to Boston, sadly.
The likely final roster is as follows
Williams-Barea-Felton
Matthews-Harris-Jenkins
Parsons-Anderson-Evans
Nowitzki-Villanueva-Powell
Pachulia-McGee-Mejri
Williams, Matthews, Parsons, and McGee are all dealing with injury problems.

Out of curiosity do you see Cuban trying to go all in on the tank job and sell off pieces in order to avoid giving up a late lotto pick? Shut down Dirk early since he has another year left, make up injuries for Matthews, Williams, and Parsons (shouldn't be hard) and trade anything resembling an NBA talent? Seems like a mushroom cloud would be the only way to avoid the penance of the pick, at least this year? Next year with health, another round of free agency roulette, and the high draft pick the Mavericks might not have to sacrifice as big a pick next season?

Not unless there are major injuries, no way from the beginning.
The Mavs are probably going to win around 35-40 games

Deron and Dirk are really declining. Matthews and Parsons come off injuries. Don't see Charlie V - Pachula - McGee - Anderson or whoever stepping up. Certainly not in the West. 41 - 41 or something at best.

Re: Official BKN-DAL-MIN pick watch Thread 2015-16 season
Chris Mannix says that the Nets should compete for a playoff spot in the east. I don't know how me means the should as in they likely will be in the mix or this team has no choice so they should
.
Does anyone here think about the trade that nearly happened at the deadline with Lopez/Reggie Jackson? I can't help but think how much better off our picks would be looking now. I imagine they still would have got rid of D-Will. Probably not worth spending too much time wondering about it but until I can track their season record I needed something to talk about.
Im really not sure what I'm more excited about this season watching the C's and hoping for a successful season of around 50 wins or rooting for Brooklyn to lose every game. I can't think of ever being in this position before! Dallas is trickier because it could work out they could end up with a record just outside of 10 and our luck they get in the lottery lol.

Best news of the preseason so far IMO is the appearance of competency in NY, Orlando and Charlotte. If those teams can outpace Brooklyn it will put the pick in good shape.

I think Pachulia is under rated. All in all that is s decent starting lineup if healthy. I'd agree with you they will not quite make the playoffs in the West. a 12-14 pick for the Cs.

I really haven't understood why a lot of people are down on Orlando. Yeah they have had bad records last few years but they seem like this is the prime year it starts to happen for them. I really like Gordon and Mario, wished we could have got those guys too. Same with Knicks, adding Melo healthy, Lopez, Affalo was a nice haul. They will actually try to win games this year. Charlotte is a wild card but i still think they will be better than the Nets.

I really like a lot of Orlando's players, I just don't like the fit. There's not enough spacing. I feel the same way about Milwaukee.

Zaza is underrated. But the Blue goggles are almost as bad as the green goggles here. No way is Dallas sniffing 40 wins. If they go .500 I'll send you $100 swear on my life.
They are going to suck. We're not getting that pick. They will be a bottom 3 team in the west. Dirk's gonna get 15-6 Good %'s & bad d. like horrible d. Matthews - TBD on a horrible deal. Barea's so overrated. Parsons is good, but he's a 16ppg player. The most your getting out of your top 2 scorers is 34ppg tops.
The bench?! Worst in the west. The Wolves, Blazers, Nuggets, all have a better benches & those are like the worst teams out there. So starters are average (if they ever all make it there together). I respect the Cuban/Dirk love affair, but sometimes it's best for both to go separate ways.

Just for you Slart.
