The Tom Thibodeau Sweepstakes

Post#1 » by Wammy Giveaway » Tue Oct 20, 2015 6:47 pm

And so it begins...

Doc Rivers must get Tom Thibodeau back in any way possible. Without him, the further Doc can go is the conference finals due to having Paul Pierce. Thibs is another lucky charm who provides Doc with an even greater chance at making the Finals. When united, they have made the NBA Finals 2 out of 3 times with one championship in the said two visits.

Doc has never made the NBA Finals by himself.

Oh my goodness, if you guys could add him to the staff as just a defensive coordinator, ...just wow. As a head coach, I fear he'd run the guys into the ground. In Chicago, his over usage of his players was scary. By the time you reached the post season, guys would be dropping like flies.

He's been doing rounds, was with a few other teams already. I don't think he's planning on joining any team this season

He was also at the scrimmage at USC's Galen Center last night. It would be nice if Doc used Thibs' services for the season until another coaching opening is available.

i highly doubt he joins any team, he's just a coach and he wants to feel connected. i'd do the same thing probably if i just lost my HC nba job.

Thibs seems like a pipe dream for us.
It won't be long before a HC gets fired and there is a spot open for him.

We already have Laurence Frank. I get that Thibs has all the hype around him, but coaches don't do miracles. He'd not give us a big jump in defensive efficiency by himself. no one would do that with this personnel.

I love when Jeff Van Gundy goes on Zach Lowe's podcast, he always stops this sort of nonsense when Lowe starts gushing about coaches who turn teams over. Like he did with Darren Erman in the last one, where Lowe started going on about how everywhere he went the team peaked on defense, but Van Gundy pointed out the roster changes that "coincidentally" also happened when he got there, and said coaches can't turn teams around unless there's roster moves or significant player development. Like Lowe can say that it was Erman and his defensive knowledge, but the first year he was there they were terrible on defense, but then they got Bogut, Iguodala, Green, etc. and suddenly his defensive knowledge turned the team around. Yeah right. Same for Thibs, yeah he came up with a very creative and effective system, but I bet adding Garnett and them had something to do with the Celtics being great on defense.

While I agree with what you're saying, a 'slight' improvement in defense is better than nothing. I do believe though that our only chance of that is if we could get Thibs on a deal greater than 1 year which I just don't see happening at all. Thibs may not be a miracle worker but just look at what Gentry did for us. You never know what a coach will bring to the table because every team is different.

honestly, whatever we want as fans is a little irrelevant because

A. as qrich said, we don't have the personnel to be one of those crazy defensive teams

and maybe more importantly

B. TT said he was going to sit this year out.
