Who will be our second "assigned" player? Jordan Bachynski? Hilliard being a draft pick is our property already. Does Adonis Thomas stick with the org or look for a better chance elsewhere given our 2-3 depth.

Detroit signing Boatright the way they did was done to prevent teams from claiming him off waivers and then being able to use him as their assigned player - going about it this way has to make one believe they have some plans for him, or see something in him and want to have some developmental time with him.

He seems really small for the league anymore, but Stan Van loves his shooters and if the Pistons are looking at him for nothing more than a future 3rd point guard or end of bench scorer type than I can understand their interest.

Honestly, as someone who has seen Boatright play a lot, I think he'll eventually end up as a veteran backup PG in the NBA.

The dude is an electric athlete and really as all the basketball skills you want; he can shoot, pass, defend, and is a heady player. The obvious drawback is his slight frame, but in the new-age spaced offenses of today, quickness is becoming more heralded, and Boatright is one of the quickest players I've ever seen.

I love this signing for the organization. Boat will likely start in the D-League, but with the injuries the Pistons have at PG, he may have a chance to play for the big league club early in the year. And to be honest, I'm not so sure Dinwiddie is the superior player.

This is clearly pandering. Any other insight is pointless.

Tmorgan nailed it.

He's not Detroit Piston property in any way, and if he was to play for Detroit early in the year we'd have to clear out a roster spot to sign him for the season. And come January when 15-day contracts are available, we'd still have to open up a roster spot for him.

And if he starts lighting up the D-League in any way, a team can sign him outright away from the Drive at any time.

I'll say it.... I'd take him over Dinwiddie.

If he can develop into a bench sparkplug, then I'm all for it.
