Lou got a quality look, I bet he wants that one back. Tough loss.
It was actually Byron's fault, he should have called a timeout immediately.
It's really no one's fault. It's the first game of the season.

The part I put in bold is exactly why we lost. I thought I was the only one who notice that...obviously me and you were watching the same game.kblo247 wrote:The Prodigy wrote:Lou got a solid look but it shouldn't have come to this.
We let this game slip away so stupidly.
Thing I didn't get regardless of the unit playing bad was why their sub pattern changed at the half. We went from inserting them into things in pieces ... Lou, then Nick, then Kelly and then Bass and Huertas with Clarkson in the first half to
pulling the starters besides Russell and putting in 4 cold bench guys all at once vs a team and then throwing in Huiertas later in the fourth after Scott goes on ESPN and says he was disappointed by Russell and his defense to the world.
Makes no sense how the whole sub pattern changed or he watched momentum shift and shift without even a timeout. In real time, not actual game time, but real time from when Kobe, Roy, and Clarkson left to when they entered 37 minutes passed ... for Randle 41

Alot of people here are becoming like the general board where it's just easier to blame kobe. He along with most of the starters were on the bench when the lead evaporated but hey it's still just his fault. This is a team with a lot of new faces. There are gonna be days like this. I'm just happy we competed and happy the nba season is back.

Hibbert keeps dropping back on pick and roll defense, that midrange shot is going to be open for everyone. Chris Paul or Curry might score 60 on us.

you have to let them sink or swim.. this team is young, it's inexperienced and it's a whole bunch of guys that have never played together, you can't just start pulling guys to save a win this early in the season.. they won't learn if every time they flounder they get the hook
from the start we all knew this season was a season for them to gain experience and have a lot of ups and downs... tonight we had ups and downs all in one game but that's how it's going to go..

And yes Kobe took some crazy 3s but no one on the starting group spaces the floor so it will have to be him shooting them short of an lineup adjustment. I will say one was half court and three if we are going by KEvin MArtin rules shouldnt count as espn was saying yeah he got hit there but they wouldnt call it.
What I did see that was positive
- Kobe spent a good bit of time not dribbling the ball and just shooting or going
- Lou and Nick were lethal.
- Kobe passed up the hero move 4 times with less than a minute to feed Lou so theres trust there
- Nick played an excellent game and got jobbed by Scott really
- KElly made some good effort plays in his second 4th qtr stint
- Clarkson got to the middle of the floor good
- Randle got to the rim even though he finished short a lot but he actually rebounded
What needs to happen is Huertas getting some more time and for the love of god if you're using Bass who is 6'8 and Kelly together let the slower yet taller Kelly guard the 5 and bass the 4 to cover the pcik and roll better

Well, statistically the PnR ball handler taking a midrange pull-up is probably one of the least efficient plays in the game. Of course in our case our perimeter defenders aren't doing a good job fighting over screens and contesting.

That works when your G can play D ala George Hill and knows how not to repeat the same mistakes. They chased Rubio and Lavine over but they never forced him towards the middle where roy can contest and still protect the rim like Hill would

Right, that's why I think it's important... If he was facing Westbrook, the expectations would be so low that nobody would even pay attention. But all you need to do to defend Rubio is to commit mentally to doing it. That, and Rubio has a similar facilitation game and athleticism, so Russell could learn a lot from trying to shut him down.
I think it's a key matchup for his development.
I guess it can be a measure of how bad he is at this stage. If you get torched by Ricky Rubio you have a really long way to go.
Rubio may surprise some people the next few seasons with his jumper. His form is MUCH improved and he takes balanced shots (with arc!). I don't think the Rondo treatment will work on Ricky this year.

The Lakers always seem to give fans heart break loses at the end of games seems like it's been going on for years now... The Lakers luck seems to have vanished ... I can't count how many heart break loses the team has had counting the last few seasons.

You're obviously missing my point, and that's when you see a team stuck in neutral you have to change it. That lineup was horrible on all fronts, they didn't have a defensive presence out there and they launched 3 after 3 after 3. Bass and Kelly aren't scores and they aren't guys you can waste touches on. And by the way that mantra of "if you pull them they won't learn"....that's crap, you have to make guys realized why they got pull. You can't keep making the same mistakes over and over and keep playing.gts1 wrote:DEEP3CL wrote:The part I put in bold is exactly why we lost. You also don't set them up to fail. NMo one has pulled off full fledged platoon swaps since Hubie in Memphis. The team had momentum in the third and he pulled them all and left out there the guy who was stuggling to play with 4 guys who hadn't played in actuality for about an hour with them all sitting in the second, halftime, and third quarter. He put them all in vs a team that was ready and alert. He set them up to fail that half as much as he set them up to struggle all preseason with whole sole changes. What he did the first half worked because it gave guys a chance to get warm with guys who were already warm and active. He out coached himself with that hockey move

Positives:
Kobe in half 1 was effective and hopefully it was well illustrated to him in the 2nd half that the chucker doesn't work.
Roy was good in the first half and also made ft's.
Randle has the eye of the tiger
Clarkson looks legit, i think he got washed out in the mix too much, but he's for real
Swaggy & Lou can work
another note: man that terrible unit would have been less terrible if Huertas looked better and I think he will be.

Rather see Black than Bass, rather see Metta than Bass.
and also i can't help but think:
Okafor 26
Towns (who cares)
D Russ 4
Porzingis: 16
Mudiay (turnover tornado at 11) but still 9 assists 17 points and a W in 38 min *Byron has done very well with guards, it might be that the Clarkson treatment is better than the free reign approach.
