My thoughts on Opening Day
I only got to watch the 4th quarter of tonight's game and here are my thoughts.
I saw a team with a lot of heart and hustle
I also saw a team that was very out of shape, small (toothpick arms) and not prepared at all. We looked tiny compared to their players. Do we not have a weightlifting program?
We have ZERO threat when it comes to the 3 pointer
Our shooting was horrendous.
We have to many guys wanting to play hero ball
I give opening night a flat Grade F
Vuc absolutely sucks on defense
To many air-balls
Having said all of this, I do see a coach with a fire in his belly and will hopefully make sure to correct these issues throughout the season. I just don't see this team going far. I don't think we have the athletes who can compete on a high level. We are probably a great team in some foreign league, but below average in the real league.

Ah I'm glad you haven't lost your desire to start new threads for ongoing subjects. If only there was a thread specifically talking about the opening night game.... nah, can't be.

Not surprised YOU gave them an F. . .
The team played extremely well throughout the game. The reason we lost is because our young guys have learned bad habits from the tanking seasons that we've had. We had a maintainable lead late and just couldn't hold onto it. It's going to take time to break those habits.

Re: My thoughts on Opening Day
quoting myself.
Was able to attend last night and my impressions were mixed but overall positive.
Vucevic and Harris had bad games. I felt like we should've been more focused on going to Vucevic down low all game, but he didn't seem to be a focal point, even when he was posting up and calling for it. Maybe it was because Gortat was guarding him, but when he did get his chances he didn't really capitalize too much. His rebounding was surprisingly bad.
Oladipo was solid. It was frustrating to watch him TRY and draw fouls and get nothing and miss the shot. The refs just don't respect him for some reason. Beal and Wall got every call.
Fournier played horribly. Wouldn't be surprised if he's not starting Friday again.
Surprised Frye didn't play. Smith played well in his sparing minutes. We all kept joking about him being the high five guy this year. CJ was ok but had some rough patches.
Gordon was fantastic. Should be starting. Not sure if they're holding him off minutes wise because of that sore left foot and because he couldn't go full speed for much of training camp, but I hope he gets more minutes soon. 17 isn't enough. He should be at least 24 mpg, if not near 30.
Hezonja was great at times, and cringe worthy at times. He came out of the gates red hot and then cooled off. It's going to take some time for him to adjust from the Euro game. He telegraphs his intentions a little too much and there were a few shots where I think the first game jitters got to him. But he made some big plays as well. LOVED the hustle. He went after a few balls that others had given up on. Didn't like him taking that drive down the stretch with so much time on the clock. We need to be going to our go-tos down the stretch, not our rookie who's been shaky that night and in his first game, lol.
Elfrid was phenomenal. His shooting looks SO much better, and I was cheering him when he was taking those jumpers because they were giving him space. Make them pay for it. I know he only shot 33% (5/15), but I felt like a number of those misses were actually closer shots and not "jump shots" per se.
Team shot really poorly and the officiating was bad, and we still should've won. We played better IMO. Could be a rough start to the season just because of growing pains and a brutal six game stretch of opponents. But I'm optimistic going forward that Vucevic and Harris will bounce back.

Re: My thoughts on Opening Day
Basing a whole teams play based on how well they shot the ball is pretty absured. Pistons shot horribly for both their games this season and won both. This is a team game and I think the Magic did a commendable job right out the gate against a top team in the East. And, they almost pulled out a victory. I can't really complain because I enjoyed the effort and think as the season moves along, the chemistry will improve as well as the shooting percentages.

I only read the last quarter of your post.....but here is my thought:
You need to take the Magic logo affiliation away from your username.

Re: My thoughts on Opening Day
Why should I be banned when I post my frustrations for a team that I love who has a .276 winning % over the past three seasons?
I was not impressed last not at all with the team. I do not expect perfection 100% of the time but I do expect to see major improvements which I saw none last night.
Oladipo looked very reckless last night. Everytime he touched the ball I cringed because it looks like he is going to get a terrible injury
Vuc looked awful. I mean awful on Defense
I was not impressed with Mario at all. How many air balls did he shoot
These are my thoughts on "Opening Day" - Not the entire season but I do demand to see a major improvement this season. This is our 4th season under Henny and I am sick of losing
