PISTONS TO RETIRE JERSEYS OF BILLUPS, WALLACE
Chauncey Billups (No. 1) and Ben Wallace (No. 3) will have their numbers retired at two separate game-night ceremonies later this season, according to the Detroit Free Press. Both numbers are currently being used by players on the roster (Reggie Jackson wears 1, Stanley Johnson wears 3).
---
So, do Reggie and Stanley get to keep their numbers if they want to? For this season, or forever? If not, I wonder what they'll switch to.

Retired numbers always work the same way. Nobody has to give them up.
Its just that no new players can get them. As soon as Jackson/Johnson leave the team or change their numbers, nobody else can use them again.

Re: Numbers Retired: Billups, Ben Wallace
Another forum posters said both intended to give up their numbers but I don't know how legit it is. I almost got a MC Johnson jersey, would've been pissed. I didn't want him to be #3 anyway and if I got it yesterday at the home opener and then they announce this the next day maaaaaan.
