Does Jackson and Stanley Johnson have to change numbers?

These should be the only two retired IMO. Rip went out bitchmade, Tay was the fifth best starter, and Sheed wasn't here long enough.

Rasheed was here 6 yrs, same as Chauncey. Ben and Rip were here 7.

I think Sheed and Rip should have theirs retired too, and think they will eventually. Doing Ben and Chauncey first makes sense though. They were the biggest leaders on the team, but they dont win w/o Sheed and Rip. No way we win that title w/o the Sheed trade. And Rip is the all time leading scorer in Pistons playoff history, over Isiah and Joe, so he almost has to get his retired just off that imo. He was also the leading scorer on those teams every year, and would probably be the first leading scorer on a championship team to not have his number retired in sports history, if we didn't.

Plus Wallace x2 was one of the best frontcourts in NBA history and would be a shame to not have both jerseys retired together.

Tayshaun I am indifferent about. If they wanted to honor the whole starting 5 I'd have no problem, but the main 4 should definitely be imo

I blame Dumars for the Rip situation too, for what its worth. I think Rip got bamboozled.

Not sure about their #'s I think some other teams have players playing with retired #'s tho. It would probably be a good thing to change their #'s tho. You never know maybe one day SJ or RJ # could get into the rafters

My guess is Reggie and Stanley will be the last ones to wear those numbers whether it means until the end of their season or the end of their time on the team.

It's a huge deal to change numbers in sports because a boatload of merchandise instantly becomes outdated.

Call me old fashioned, stuffy or whatever, but I always had a problem with the young'ns wearing 1 and 3. Andre did it, Rodney did it, and now Stanley and Reggie and I never liked it. It almost feels disrespectful and I get that maybe that's just me feeling too strongly about it.

Chauncey and Ben definitely deserves this I can't even put into words how amazing and important they were to this team and franchise.

This might be an unpopular opinion/thought, but when the memory of how Rip went out fades away, #32 will also be in the rafters.

i can this, its a matter of respect for your history. I think Reggie and SJ more so want to honor them by wearing it in the same way i think Dre is growing a fro. They have yet to build their own identity but i am sure it will come. Our team is young. Plus if we retire there numberes and they expect to be great as a piston. They'll change there number.

Color me surprised. I guess I just identify Chauncey and Ben as Pistons but Sheed as a Blazer first.

Outdated or "classic". Also having the now dated numbers would be showing your early support/allegiance to the players in their Piston careers.

I can live with it if these are the only two...sometimes we get a little crazy with retiring numbers..Chauncey and Big Ben are def deserving, but lets leave it at that.

Without Rasheed, there is no title. Rasheed should get his retired too in my opinion. No to Rip and Tay, yes to the other three.

Surprised there is anyone on earth that doesn't want to see a Rasheed Wallace jersey ceremony. That sounds awesome to me :dontknow:

Rasheed and RIP need their numbers retired also, to not have their numbers retired would be a shame and down right wrong.

That was actually what I was referring to. There was talk at the time that he only signed that extension under the assumption he would be staying to play with Chauncey, and that Dumars double crossed him when he then traded Chauncey a few days later.

"If Rip would have knew that this deal was going on, I just don’t know that he would have signed that extension," Billups said. "It was kind of funny to me that they announced this trade the same day that he signed. I really don’t know. … It just seemed weird to me. He signed that extension three days before the trade. … I think it might have been a little different if all this was exposed early." http://www.detroitbadboys.com/2008/11/14/1216390/chauncey-billups-opens-up

Then they signed a new starting SG the following summer to take his position, supposedly promising him he would be traded for Boozer but was later nixed by ownership, leaving him double crossed again.

So I can fully understand why he eventually went nuts on the team. I doubt he would have signed up for a rebuild project had he been told before signing. I always blamed that whole mess on management/ownership not him.

Feels like all 5 should be retired. All five had huge moments in the run. "The Block" alone saved the whole championship run. "The guaransheed" also lit a fire and raised everyone's game. RIP drawing key fouls on Artest also was key. Makes sense to do Ben & The Mayor first though.

I don't think Rip or Sheed should have their numbers retired. Tayshaun shouldn't even be entertained by the thought. Ben is a given, Chauncey was on the cusp for me. I'm shocked it's happening this soon considering how long it took for Rodman to get his retired.

I hate that we gave the numbers out if they were this close to retiring them. Especially Giving Stanley #3 in June. I hate players sharing numbers or switching numbers.

I'd be happy with all five, but since Chauncey and Ben both came back I have no problem with them being first. Next should be Sheed with 'ball don't lie' stenciled in.
