Re: The Andrew Wiggins Thread
Honestly someone said it in the other thread but Wiggins really does seem like Jeff Green 2.0 at times.
Great defensively, and absolute offensive weapon when he puts his mind to it.
However more times than not he seems to be content with just being another part of the team. That's not usually a bad thing to want to play team ball but I hope for Drew's sake KG or Mitch can talk to him because he needs to realize that for a player of his caliber it is not selfish to force the issue.

My Starting 5:
PG: Allen Iverson
SG: Paul Pierce
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Garnett

WTF Probable? Wiggo already was injured against LA and we have no reason for risk his back again.
Really I don't understand why the boy played two days ago a inconsequential game in a west tour, the first game of the season.
I really hope the training staff is paying attention. Back spasms were the start of T-Macs physical decline. He'd sit a few games then return. In order not to tweak that back, he'd overcompensate by putting undue pressure on other parts pf his body to compensate. Then the list of nagging injuries started to pile up and basically took away one of the potential great wing players of our time.
Difference is that I dont think Wiggs has the ball skills that Tmac had to try to transition into more basketball player than athlete (yet).
Rest him. Its a long season.

Just saying that good things didn't come out of that play. When Rubio is on the game, postups should be very limited.
Not saying that it should disappear, but Wiggins needs to learn how to cut well and stroke it from deep. If you want a postup as one of your main half court plays, you're probably not going to have a good offense, especially when Wiggins was kind of a black hole passing out of them. I would run some postups for Towns and Wiggins when Rubio is out of the game, Lavine sucks as a PG so that way we can cut down the dumb plays and slow down the game.
I just don't see how we could significantly integrate Wiggins into the offense any other way but by calling post up plays for him, because cutting itself isn't something you can get a lot of points with, and Wiggins didn't show a good feel for cutting either, and then we have spotting up which he didn't show he was really good at either, while his handle is not good enough for him to frequently beat guys off the dribble.
The only thing I feel he could soon become really good at is posting up, but I guess I could be wrong and that he could excel at something else rather than that. I feel like he won't meet anybody's expectations if he tries to produce mostly by spotting up and cutting.
Posting up for a wing has to be priority number 4000. If he's not good at cutting or spotting up he will never be an allstar.
It's like a PG that only knows how to pass a ball to the high-low post, it far more important to be able to make passes out of the PNR, shoot, defend, etc...
Maybe l'm wrong and you should correct me, but what's the last great wing that his main card was posting up?
Melo until he turned into an overweight modern Antoine Walker as a Knick.

Can we please stop with the "Wiggins is too passive stuff" until his back has healed at least? Thanks.

Kobe, and before Kobe, it was Jordan.

I'd rather Wiggins sit out for 2 weeks and get completely well rather than him trying to give it a go, be largely ineffective on offense and then have this turn into a lingering injury. I'm hoping he sits tonight.

Question: Do we win without Wiggins stopping Kobe down the stretch on Wednesday? I'm not so sure.
He can still have an impact. He doesn't have to score 20 points to have an impact.

I didn't say he didn't have an impact. I said he was ineffective on offense. My point was, I'd rather him sit out a game or two and not risk his back issues become a lingering problem.
Also, while Wiggins did play solid defense on Kobe, I think you can attribute some of that to fatigue in Kobe's first game back in forever. He missed a couple of open shots and just didn't have his legs under him. But Wiggins certainly made it hard on him.

not worth scraping for wins if it means a nagging injury doesn't have a chance to heal

Re: The Andrew Wiggins Thread
Scraping or not, these first three games are our only decent chances for wins in a while. I want to get at least a few wins while we can so this doesn't become just like most of the last six years. I don't want to struggle to get 20 wins, so we need to get them when we can.

I agree, if wolves have intentions of making the playoffs this year, they gotta start fast. Except I think if they start 4-2, 5-1, a lot more games on the schedule look winnable. Wolves dont play until monday after today rso wiggy will have enough time to rest after.

Sit Wiggins start Martin. Let him heal up, Nuggets are going to be rough and tumble anyway, I'd rather Wiggins get healed up then have this turn into a big problem.

True.
Upper back problems aren't long lasting injuries. Lower back pain and knee problems are what should be concerning, but I think back spasms can be fixed with rest. Wiggins going out there and trying to fight through it won't help.

Re: The Andrew Wiggins Thread
Along with the bad back I think part of Wiggins problems are definitely due to the fact that we have little scoring in the starting lineup. Opposing defenses can focus on guarding Towns, Wiggins and Rubio since Garnett and Prince are not giving you much anymore in terms of scoring the basketball.
I like Prince but it might be better to start Martin or Shabazz next to Wiggins.

Re: The Andrew Wiggins Thread
Should Wiggins be the starting at the 2?
the second half of last year when he was really playing well it was at the 3 spot. I get that they like the height advantage at the 2 but at the 3 he is able to use what is clearly his most elite level trait in his athleticism, mainly quickness to his advantage, like when he made Lebron look silly in the post. Going up against other teams 2s he doesn't have that advantage so when he is making his moves in the post they are reacting much faster. Also being pretty tall, 6'6 (for your average pick up games), i sometimes times find it easier to post up against guys closer to my height rather then shorter guys because they are able to get better leverage going lower on me and with their hands being lower it is easier for them to swipe at the ball, granted it is easier to finish over them but i find it harder to make the moves. At 6'8 or some say 6'9 Wiggs will still have a height/reach advantage over a lot of 3s, they may be a little bit stronger but he'll have a much better quickness/explosiveness advantage that he'll be able to exploit.
