Boozer, Kawhi, and Robinson

Post#5 » by Ranma » Thu Oct 29, 2015 1:25 am

I'm not a Boozer fan, but the link to that video interview was a little humorous. Kawhi ain't no joke, that's for sure. Also, it's a shame that we couldn't take a chance on Thomas Robinson; it sounds like he's really motivated to prove himself (a la Austin Rivers and Hassan Whiteside) this season.

Tim Frazier made the Trail Blazers roster, so there is still Penn State in the NBA!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

hmm, so apparently, simmons was the one who orchestrated it. he had the site's 4 main editors quit all at the same time to join his site. sounds like espn didn't have much choice after that, unless i'm interpreting it wrong.

One Grantlander says that no one knew the four editors were leaving to join Simmons until the day they left. That’s because, another source says, Simmons has been warring with ESPN both by acting as a source for writer Jim Miller, and by more nefarious means.

While Grantland writers are on contract, editors are at-will. The four editors’ exits were coordinated, and Simmons, according to this source, told the editors who jumped ship with him that a condition of their employment was that they couldn’t warn anyone at ESPN they were leaving, in order to hit the site as hard as possible.

“He put his beef with Skipper above the jobs of dozens of people,” one Grantland staffer said.

if true, congrats, bill! you're still the same sh**ter i thought you were the whole time.

I agree that Simmons placed his personal vendetta over the interests of his former colleagues, but to play devil's advocate, Grantland looked like it was dying a slow death at ESPN. The Deadspin report cited that ESPN would be making huge budget cuts over two years. Aside from the editors, the writers will have their contracts honored either way.

As upset as I am at the loss of Grantland, I'd rather have it go out near on top now than to have the quality suffer because of ESPN's directives and then shuttered because of the excuse of lower quality and the resulting loss of traffic. This could also accelerate a chance for the talent to join Simmons sooner at his endeavor even if the writers will likely be stuck and under contract at ESPN in this continued war between Simmons and the "Worldwide Leader in Sports".

Zach Lowe should be fine in any case as he is too talented to be obscured. The rest of the writers would be more subject to limbo and obscurity depending on what ESPN does with them.

ESPN had plenty of opportunities to save face well before Simmons did that...

http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2015/10/espn-bill-simmons-breakup

Trust me, there is more to the story than just Simmons taking 4 editors who arent even on contract and that being the downfall of Grantland. Not to say Simmons is free of blame, but the entire trust and tone of Grantland was changed behind the scenes after Simmons was gone... And not for the betterment of the division.

Im willing to bet Simmons is already on the phone with Lowe and plenty of other Grantland staff about his upcoming .com venture backed by HBO.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Grizzlies need to call it quits on this core.
