Wow, good thing he got sent down, he's definitely not at the level of any of our current starters. He also outdueled Yovani Gallardo, the best pitcher in the minors last night (although Yo did have 12 SO).

Also, finally Colby got his first extra base hit in 8 games last night.

I feel bad for John Rodriguez. If he had been healthy and hitting earlier this spring, you know he would have been called up. Now he's got it going, but there's no big need for him because our outfielders are actually starting to hit the ball.

Rodriguez has plenty of holes in his game, but he's a big-league hitter. It's too bad he doesn't have very much trade value, because he is a logical guy for the Cardinals to trade.

Another HR for Ankiel last night, making 16 for the year. It's just too bad that his OBP is .307 which is awful.

Colby continues to struggle. There is word though that he has been sick, so hopefully that has been the reason for his struggles.

Percival had a good outing last night K'ing 2 and allowing 1 hit.

Ankiel with THREE home runs tonight. He is toooo good for that OBP stuff...none of that tiresome baserunning for him, it's either all the way around slow-jog style or just walk back to the dugout. That's playin baseball the Rick way.

It's going to be fun when we bring him up in September. Our two best pitchers will be guys who aren't even on the pitching staff--Rick, and Scott Spiezio.

Percival season to date: 4.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 5 BB, 4 SO

With Percival it's more of his first outing making his overall numbers look bad.

Our draft sucked, that reminds me it keeps on looking worse and worse about signing Kyle Russell, who was a top 30 talent.

Also, Bryan Anderson and Colby Rasmus made the "Futures Game."

Anaylsis on Kozma:

18. SS Peter Kozma, Cardinals

Poopy. Ever since I first saw Kozma's swing, I've been trying to come up with a better, more sophisticated way to describe his swing. Unfortunately, Kozma hasn't been able to shed the unfortunate label that I initially put on his swing. Want to eliminate power from an otherwise decent swing? Swing like this...

To say that Kozma is trying to "extend" is a gross understatement. It looks like he's trying to work on it during his batting practice session, so it's not an accident that he does it on his game swing. This swing is the result of years of hitting coaches telling kids to "throw their hands at the ball." At least he keeps his bat in the zone (and eight feet in front of it) for a long time and his swing is decently short. He probably won't strike out much and he'll lace a few line drives. That's about all for the positives. I'd like to talk about his defense, but when this analysis is based mostly on swing mechanics, it is difficult to ignore a swing this...poopy. No thanks, not enough power potential for me here. Not with that swing.

On the positive side, The Cardinals did take Kyle Russell, who will be featured in Part 4.

Side Note: Almost unbelievably, Kozma does not have the worst swing in the first round. Hint: He'll be featured in Part 3.

Percival struck out of the side in his last outing.

In AAA today, Ankiel hits #20, Joe Mather hits his first HR in AAA, and our old buddy Fernando Tatis even got a HR for the opposing team.

Colby hits #14 today, hopefully he's over the sinus infection he had.

Colby with a nice night last night going 4-5 with a double and a home run.

Edit- Also 2B Jarrett Hoffpauir who just got promoted to AAA, after killing AA is getting off to a very good start in AAA so far.

Then there Anthony Reyes who last night went 4.2 innings with 6 ER against him. You have to think the Cards are shopping him and he won't be in a Cardinal uniform past the trade deadline.

Can I ask why Ankiel didn't got a call in the majors? And why Tony prefers Skip Shumaker to him? I'm not able to see minor league games (I live in Italy, I have only mlb.tv) and reading stats I assume is a power hitter, maybe a number five in the lineup? I don't know how he plays defensively, maybe this could be the reason for not giving him a chance.
