Broncos Get:
49ers 2016 6th
49ers 2016 7th
Vernon Davis

49ers Get:
Broncos 2016 6th
Broncos 2016 7th
Broncos 2017 6th

I think we could've beaten that.

Will be interesting to see if Davis shows that he can still be any threat in the passing game because Denver basically got him for nothing.

4 million in cap space they can't use on extensions or roll over in the off season. That's a huge.

Also shows how little faith the 9ers had in him. Had they kept him and he signed in DEN next year and put up pro bowl numbers they could of gotten a better comp pick .

I squandered an asset? Then Hammond taught me well.

Also i'm surprised Daniels has struggled so much in DEN. Had a big year last year for the Ravens and he has more talent around him that the D has to scheme against.

It's far from huge

This likely is the last year for Manning, i highly doubt that they are losing sleep over 4 million in open cap space for this season. Instances like this are one reason teams keep cap space open for the season. The Broncos have used free agency along with the draft and trades specifically to try and win a title while Manning is still around. If Davis ends up just being a slight help in getting Denver to the Super Bowl, the trade will have been a big win for them and if not, that four million will largely be irrelevant as they reshape their roster around a new QB.

Plus, open cap space doesn't really roll over to the next offseason as many fans think. If hypothetically a team ends a year with 10 million in cap space, that doesn't exactly roll over in how that phrase sounds. Each year is it's own entity as some players are let go, some see their cap number rise significantly from the previous season, some get their contract renegotiated, some have big bonuses kick in, etc etc. So if Davis doesn't contribute much, he'll get waived after the season and not harm their cap next year at all.

The only thing i couldn't say is if he has anything left. That is where scouts for teams earn their money by watching film and seeing all of his snaps to tell if he still gets open downfield sometimes, but Kaepernick and the scheme can't get him the ball.

I don't understanding the big deal about rolling over cap space unless you use it to go big some years. If you penalize yourself in year 1 by rolling over 10 m. and you keep rolling it over til year 10. Years 2-9 are still have the same payroll and cap usage right? All you did was penalize yourself in year 1 for benefit in year 10. It's not it is investing where that amount grows. Yeah there are some nuances about taking on the salary hit early for flexibility later but really the botton line is signing guys to reasonable contracts.

Am I missing something?
