When I was a kid watching him play on those great ABA teams the Pacers put together, Mel was the rock in the middle, he was a great leader and one great player!!

A lot of NBA fans think the ABA was a "Minor" league but it wasn't. The ABA had some of the most dynamic and talented player of the time. Dr J, Mel, Roger Brown, Dan Issel, Artis Gilmore, George Gervin, James Silas, Louie Dampier, George McGinnis, Marvin Barnes, Spencer Haywood, Rick Barry, Moses Malone, and a bunch of greats that I'm sure I left out.

im well aware of the ABA. Loose Balls by Terry Pluto is one of my favorite sports books
