Vince Ellis vs Keith L.

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Wed Nov 4, 2015 11:24 pm

Anyone else notice a little beef between these two? There have been a number of tweets and indirect insults back and forth all the way back to "Pistons interest in MArkieff", "JEnnings health", and now

Ellis:
Because most readers want my honest assessment ... not a cheerleader. Freep didn't hire me to be a cheerleader. Feel free to read pistons.com if you want your point of view on a team that hasn't reached the playoffs since Obama's first year in the White House.

If you guys don't follow Detroit beat writers here's a little background

Vince Eliis: The Drew Sharp of the Pistons, tries to play devil's advocate but always comes out sounding ignorant about basketball. Also don't trust any "breaking news" from him. He's been wrong and over exaggerates alot with 0 substance.

Keith Lang: He writes Piston articles on his knee's under Gores desk. If your not careful you might start buying his cool aid and end up posting some stupid sh* on RealGM, you'll have to eat later.

Langlois is a homer but I still read his articles. Ellis is probably just touchy because of The Lions coach comments about Detroit press.

Langlois has personally answered some of my questions through the years too. I find that cool.

Both are pretty meh like Han said Langlois is a homer. Vince Ellis idk it just seems like he doesn't know basketball or understand stats but continues to talk about and use both.

If you're looking for opinion writing on Detroit basketball I don't think there are any real good options out there. It's hard to blame Langlois for what he does since he's an employee of the team. The homer position is pretty standard for writers like him across all sports. Ellis is kind of entertaining at times, but that's about it. These guys are good for the occasional update about the team but don't expect anything past that.

Rod Beard isn't bad for quotes and stuff.

Ellis is that, a beat writer. Just because he writes for a Detroit newspaper doesn't mean he's going to be a homer. His job is to be objective. It's journalism rule number 1.

And of course, people think there's a conflict going on when all he's saying is if you want a rosy picture go to the Pistons website.

Goodwill was a great beat writer and a nice guy as well.

Id take Ellis for more objectivism although he's often uninformed. Neither are particularly good though IMO

Has no one noticed those too going at it. Saw a tweet from KL stating "Just when i thought my perception of you couldn't be more diminished." quoting a Vince ellis tweet

Keith L. works for the team... Of course, he has to be a homer or he wouldn't have a job with Pistons.com.

Ellis is hot garbage.

I like David Mayo from Michigan Live better than either of them.
Only advantage to KL is that sometimes he gets inside info first.

I don't like either, but Ellis annoys me more because he's so damn arrogant even though he always seems to be so ignorant about what he's writing about. I find Detroit media to be atrocious. I don't follow or read any of them consistently.

Keith L is writing for Pistons.com, you can't expect anything other than homer articles from him. He's good at what he does though.
Ellis is usually useless in my experience.

I miss the non-famous version of Mitch Albom.

Langlois does a good job for a PR guy. I ve seen much worse and his stories and mailbag answers are always a good read. Sure he tries to show everything in a positive way, but thats his job.

I like to argue with Ellis on twitter, he will respond to a lot of questions. But his articles & analysis are pretty bla and mediocre. Mayo definitely does a better job covering the Pistons.

don't read much of ellis but langlois ins't that bad of a writer. you expect writers FOR a team to put a positive spin on things but i don't think langlois is over the top.

however, that may just be because my only other comparison point is mike wobschall, the media content manager for the minnesota vikings. pretty much everything he says about the vikings is vomit-inducing.
