I cant remember who it was on here that was basically predicting SJ for rookie of the year and that the Magic messed up not drafting him. His current line thru 4 games, 6 ppg, 4 rpg in 17 mpg. or that Mudiay at 12 ppg, 6 apg and 6 TO's, Kaminsky at 3 ppg, 2 rpg.
Is this me saying they will be bad players? absolutely not. This is a reminder that pre-season doesnt mean a whole lot, these kids are young, if they dont blow up like Lebron immediately, it doesnt mean the players will not be good. While im still not the biggest believer in Aaron Gordon, im not ready to throw the towel in on him. Payton needs work on his game, but he is still young and learning. We all just need to have a bit more patience with the team, especially with a new coach, new schemes, etc.

Well for one thing Mario was drafted for the future, not for what he can do in the first week of November, same for Gordon and Payton. Its going to take time for Mario to get acclimated but he will be fine, he is too talented.

Despite playing professional ball since he was 10, you can tell the NBA game is just moving too fast for Mario right now. It's going to take time and some confidence for the game to slow down for him.. Hopefully it starts tonight!

He also has to adjust to the officiating. Not only are the rules different but the officials call things so much differently than in Euroball.

Yeah I think that's true for pretty much all professional sports. You go up a level and it takes time to adjust. To use some football comparisons... you see a guy like Blake Bortles finally looking like a solid QB in his second season after a pretty terrible rookie campaign. Jameis Winston had 7 turnovers his first 4 games and 0 his last 3 as he's gotten more comfortable. Adjusting to the speed of the game is a huge hurtle and it takes guys time. Fans have zero patience however.

Re: Stanley Johnson..and other predictions
As far as Mario's future goes, I think he has a few things to work on.
The first thing he needs to do is to start finishing off cuts and in the PnR. This is something that he will improve upon in the near future as he gets acclimated to the league. He is shooting 12.5% on twos and that will not remain the case for much longer. No worries here. Secondly, he needs to cut down on silly fouls and turnovers. He averages 5.5 turnovers and 3.7 fouls per 36 minutes. This just come down to experience and a willingness to make the right play. All of these things are correctable and could be fixed by the end of the season. If he does correct them, he will be a dangerous sniper who helps build leads for our team.
The improvements that he needs to make to earn starters minutes are free-throw attempts, rebounding and defensive playmaking. He doesn't have to become James Harden, but considering Hezonja's gifts, he should be able to draw somewhere in the neighborhood 2.5-3 fouls per 40 minutes ala Harrison Barnes. He doesn't need to be elite, but he has to be a threat. He has shown to be an average rebounder at all levels and currently, he is grabbing 3.7 per 36. That's an average number for a guard, but its below average for a SF. Improving rebounding isn't impossible, but it could take a few seasons to reach acceptable levels for a SF. The last one is defensive playmaking. Hezonja hasn't blocked any shots and has 1 steal on the year so far. That averages out to 0.6 steals per 36.
Now, I'm not putting too much stock into such small sample sizes, but many of these issues have followed him at every level and he has some work to do if he wants to correct them. Luckily he is young, has a good work ethic and a great coaching staff to help him achieve our lofty aspirations for him.

Yes, he dribbles a little too much into traffic and thing's generally never go his way.
First year in NBA so it's to be expected, he lives and breathes basketball though so he shouldn't have any issue improving what he is bad at.

I'll happily go on record as preferring both Stanley Johnson and Myles Turner (and Mudiay! -- didn't expect he'd be an option like the other two.)
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Hope so.

Stanley isn't playing much better - they've both looked fine in the preseason.. things are a bit different regular season.

Right now one could argue the best rookie is Montrezl Harrell. He has the highest PER of all rookies and is playing excellent, meaningful ball for a potential contender.

Re: Stanley Johnson..and other predictions
Arguably the best rookie in preseason, Bobby Portis, can't get off the bench in Chicago. It is what it is, and like tiderulz said, the early weeks and months of rookies' NBA seasons aren't always pretty but equally aren't always an indicator of the player they will become. I'm not worried about Mario.

Re: Stanley Johnson..and other predictions
Being I have watched all games for both teams thus far this season, I can truly say that both Rookies are playing like Rookies. Mario may have played some decent minutes, but both players are often out of position and make many mistakes out on the court. Mario has just shot much better with solid passing which is about the only good things he has done while Stanley drives much better to the hoop and plays solid defense. Mario hasn't been that good on defense.
But, it is fun to watch them play yet there are moments where I am scratching my head at both. Personally, I have seen Mario make more mistakes on the court than Stanley.

He's either over confident and gets lax/loose with handles.... or becomes hesitant and second guesses himself and his decisions at times. And all that comes with comfort with the game. When most rookies are probably hitting there rookie walls.... I wouldn't be surprised that he starts hitting his stride!!! As stated before....TOOOO talented and hard working to not be able to right the ship!!
