You can make a strong case for Mc Collum in Portland, too. That guy is lighting it up while playing good D.

Yup, he was my top fantasy team sleeper after coming on real strong at the end of last season. That's a fun backcourt in Portland. They lost a lot of talent in the offseason, but they've turned that into a positive.

That's why I ended my season ticket experiment after one year. It's not fun when no one is rooting for the home team.

DC fans - worst fans in the world. It's not their fault that they're all transplants loyal to their own team but it makes going to games not fun at all.

Shoot that's not even true. Walking down the street in Anacostia everyone I talk to is a fricking Lakers fan. It's like a virus.

Let me just say that while it could perhaps be better still, things are MUCH better wrt opp fans at the Phone Booth
than the were 5-10 (or more) years ago. It's like night and day.

Winning cures all.

And there's exponentially more Wiz gear in the crowds and on the streets than there was 5-10 years ago. When a franchise is terrible for 30 years -- in a town with countless other things to do -- you have an entire generation that grew up not caring about the team. It is getting better.

I think what Ted should do, if he refuses to change the objectively idiotic name, is to do more "school nights" where he goes out to various middle schools and offers them a deal to come sit in the 400 level. Those kids are LOUD and FUN and they don't know anything about the past 30 years of suckitude. And yet all last season he did that maybe once. Bringing those kids in drowns out the disloyal leeches and develops a fanbase for the future, you're not going to sell those tickets most of the time anyway so why not invest in the future? And if you make a deal like that during a spurs game they will drown out the spurs losers and season ticket holders like me won't get discouraged and stop going.

Post it yourself. Where did you find that? I forget where it was. He had another about the Wizards name (and comparing them to the Globetrotters) that was pretty special. They should both be enshrined side by side.

Hey Zonk, when I saw you at a game last season (I recognized you by your Wall sweater) you were sitting in a section behind the opponents bench. Sec. 120...or something like that, I believe. Well, that's also the section (or near the section) where most of the opposing team's fans sit. So, yeah, you're going to be deluged with the cheers and applause of the the opponent's fans in that section...and you'll likely be left with the impression that the other team's fans have more of a presence than they really have.

Also keep in mind that the first two home games--Knicks and Spurs--were against teams that bring a lot of their fans out. Won't be the same against Milwaukee, Orlando, Atlanta, etc.

I moved across the court this year to section 110. Much better vibe...and far fewer fans of the opposing team.

BTW, the Wizards name has absolutely nothing to do with any lack of support from local fans. Just win baby!...and all will be fine with the locals.

WizD is a man ahead of his time. Like many elite thinkers his true greatness probably won't be fully appreciated until he has been dead 100+ years.

Agree. The two main sections I sat over the years, 109 and 113, usually were overwhelmingly Wizards fans, although during some of the darkest days, the Lakers, Knicks, Celtics and LeBJ fans got pretty loud. When there's something to cheer about, Wizards fans can get pretty loud too. With a little practice at being fans of a winning team, I'll bet it can get much, much louder. My yelling voice goes hoarse pretty quickly, so I generally save it until the 4th. My wife doesn't like yelling in the house, so when I'm watching on TV, I just have to go with fist pumps and psychic confetti and such. GO WIZ!

Yeah I switched away from the enemy seats midway through the season. That's not what I'm talking about.

It was great when teams had names relating to their locations -- Minneapolis Lakers, etc. We still got some of that of course -- sixers, etc. -- and I don't see why we can't rekindle that flame:

The Utah Bigamists
The Miami Beach
The Atlanta Sprawl

oh, and The Washington Bureaucrats, of course.
