Hey, Elfrid Payton fantasy owner here. Can anyone tell me why he only play 15 minutes?

Under Vaughn, Payton had free reign to ad hoc and play the game the way he wanted. Under Skiles he has to follow an actual NBA structure. It's a huge adjustment for him.

Plus, he can't shoot.

I really saw nothing out of whack with the free throws last night. I watched the game over again and each foul or no call twice. There were 5 times I counted that Derozen could have picked up a foul but none was called, most of this in the 4th quarter. Fournier wasn't fouled by Val on his drive in the 4th, Fournier fell down, Val avoided contact and had his arm straight up. It didn't look like his left arm touched Fournier, the ref was right in front with a better angle than the camera.

It is not a foul when the offensive player creates contact on a legal defender no matter the result. Unless the defender makes an illegal play, most often moving the arms down in any way, then the foul won't be called. You have to get the defender to hit you and push you off your place not the other way around. The Magic simply didn't create fouls.

Often times the Magic clearly fouled a Raptors player, according to the rules, and the refs called it. The Magic did not draw fouls, they avoided contact. The only time the Magic drew nice contact was the Tobias post when he raked through the defenders arm and pulled up, that **** was textbook.

All that and we only shot 7 less FTs than they did. Not sure if defensive 3 second technical foul shots go into overall FT numbers, which would bring that disparity down to I think 4 FTs for the entire game, so 2 foul calls they got more than us despite us being terrible at drawing fouls. Even if they don't could, 3 fouls difference?

As always bad officiating we arent getting any calls :/
Only stars and their teammates gets to the line.
It shoudnt be this way.Im tired of listening about the fact you need refs respect to get the calls.NBA is"turrible" in that department and it makes this whole great sport NBA is look like a joke a bit.I dont know maybe You guys in USA got diffrent mindset but to European this is starting to look like WWF staged not basketball.Either this or that is a foul or it isnt.

Why our team wear crappy Tshirts instead of hometown jerseys?
Are they going to wear it every home game?
This is freaking basketball not soccer not volleyball or any other weakass sport.
I hate when someone touch and destroy tradition.

offensively, what's killing Payton is the new system. the new offense has taken away his bread an butter - the PnR. and each play now seems to begin with Payton quickly offloading to someone on the elbow, and then Payton running through the paint to the other elbow. half the time, whoever gets the ball will make the play (sometimes it's a PnR, sometimes it's taking their man off the dribble). the other half, Payton gets it back, but he's still not getting PnRs, and he'll often make a high dribble across the top of the key, looking for another open man.

his whole penetration game has been stripped from him. but when he does get back in their like last season, he's still just as good as he was. he would've had two more assists had Dedmon not been fouled.

I'm reminded of Pelton's comment about Tony Parker still thriving in a pass-heavy offense. Elfrid isn't an All-Star like him, but they ought to be able to incorporate him somehow.

I'm not sure he's doing that well when he gets into the paint. He's rushing everything.

On the other hand, he almost had a triple-double in game one. Maybe he's just having a bad stretch. Rebuilt shot, new offense, extreme pressure to perform on defense, learning to be a leader. Change doesn't happen overnight. I'm fairly pleased with Skiles's approach: "dust yourself off and play well the next game."

Last night he did fine when he got into the paint - no turnovers, only a couple of dangerously forced plays. He does look like he's rushing a bit more in general though. Again, though, I think that's because he's creating off the perimeter, and generally from the strong side, but without having Vuc/Dedmon to set his pick (because they often set the screen for Fournier/Dipo).

There was one pretty bad one that stood out. Dipo coming down for the layup and his defender bodies him from behind, knocks him off balance and blocks his shot out of bounds. That was a clear foul.

Payton needs to work to earn his spot in the starting line-up or something needs to change. Napier and Watson looked a hell of a lot better.

AG needs to play 30 minutes at least.

Dedmon is an awesome back-up center.

Dipo is amazing when he plays efficiently and not wild.

Hezonja has elite passing skills, missed a couple 3's, one wide open..but hey he's a rook he'll get better.

Harris is Harris and he's a freaking clutch beast. Great on both ends of the floor last night.
