I'm not worried about SJ.
Justise is in a much easier situation because he's surrounded by vets and there's not as much pressure on him.
Our poor bench play is putting a lot more pressure on SJ and he doesn't look ready for it just yet.
He'll get there though. It's only game 5

the first mistake is comparing teams, you can't. if 13 and 8 is the standard, i don't feel our rookie can't get that.

^^THIS

I would also add, our rookie has been directed to focus on rebounding and D.

Not every rookie is capable of immediate contributions but that doesnt mean that they will always be subpar. SJ is struggling for a variety of reasons- but that doesnt mean hes always going to struggle. Lets see where he is in year 3, not fair to make judgments on players so early.

As for Winslow, he is seeing lots of PT because of his elite defense- that has nothing to do with his teammates. He's been a mixed bag offensively but defensively hes a beast and that is why he's been rewarded with PT.

I havent been able to watch too many games because of some personal stuff going on but Im thrilled to see Detroit actually winning some games. Much better than I predicted.

Great defensive win last night. It looked like Drummond got down on himself when he didn't start off in a dominating fashion and the mood pretty much stuck with him throughout the game. He can't let himself be taken out of the game like that. Good film session material to help his development.

KCP carried us in the first. I asbolutely loved seeing him drain a deep three in Markieff's face and power up a layup on Markieff too. Still think he's got no heart? KCP's growth is apparent. He's looking really poised in those late shot clock looks as he gets tot he basket off the bounce. And he looks impressive in his defense on the perimeter.

Reggie led us in the fourth after making some pretty nimrod-esque decisions in the first 3 quarters. Gotta do better RJ. Can't be out there looking like you're trying to go for self or can't figure out how to run the offense.

It was good to see Mook get lose after starting off so tight. Keep up the grit bruh!

Stanimal looked good on D. He got some cheap calls made against him and he made so DUMB offensive plays. You're better than that SJ.

Illy & Tolliver were unspectacular but solid, especially the Law with his defense against Kieff in the second half.

Blake made shots!! His legs still aren't there so I'm expecting a let down against Portland. SVG might be forced to split the back up minutes between Blake and Dinwiddie next game.

I'm not worried about Johnson. He will look like a completely different player mid season than he does now.

Yeah rookies gonna rook. By having johnson focus on defensive, Stan is simplfying the game for him and his confidence rise as he can take the offensive game in as he's ready.

I think stanley looked awesome. Sure he isn't finishing plays on offense, but he is getting to his 'spots'. His motor is kind of insane too, really effective on the glass and has shown tons of defensive upside. reminds me of a young jimmy butler.

Another good road win!

My predictions were okay ...

I predicted a 5 pt win, we won by 8 (even better)!

I predicted 21 pts/25 rebs/1 stl/3 blks from Drummond, we got 12 pts/17 rebs/2 stls/1 blk.

I predicted 20 pts from KCP, we got (a very efficient) 18 pts.

Also, they have nearly identical stats through the season so far with Justise averaging 10 mpg more than Stanley. This idea that he's lighting it up, is a gross exaggeration. I posted their stats in the Around the League thread.

Yeah, if anything, Winslow is finally giving Miami fans a reason to be excited. We've already had Stanley's elite summer league and preseason... We know how good of a player Stanley is and how much better he will become due to his work ethic.

Heat fan here. SJ is perhaps my third favorite rookie in this class.

I think SJ would be best if he developed like Kawhi. Let him focus on defense and rebounding as SVG instructed, and he will naturally be given more offensive responsibilities in the future. He has 2 way potential, he just needs to understand his value goes way beyond just becoming a shot creator/scorer. Once he realizes that he won't become as frustrated. He is already fundamentally sound on offense. Absolutely no worries about SJ. He has the highest floor in this draft IMO.

Your passive aggressive comparison posts regarding Winslow and Johnson on the General Board really irritate me, cyclix, but you're 100% right here. The Kawhi model is perfect for Johnson and WInslow both.

I listen to NBA radio on Sirius XM and he has a time slot at 5 everyday. Eddie Johnson is a Pistons hater, he hates Reggie Jackson lol. He also predicted that we will win less than 30 wins and have multiple 10+ game losing streaks. Eddie is very uninformed and everything he says is bias.

There are a ton of former players that work around the league in various positions that really shouldn't be in those positions. Marc Jackson is national and is perhaps the worst commentator league wide. Just horrific. The Bucks radio guys are awesome though. That preseason game was hilarious and they reminded me of the mystery science theater guys yucking it up having a great time.

Eddie Johnson is terrible all day long though. Even our very own Rick Mahorn is bad, but bad in a good way because I swear he's either stoned or falling asleep most games as he will say the most absurd things from time to time. At least Mahorn understands the game.

I listen to the NBA station on XM radio when I'm picking my daughter up from school and that's around the time he's on the radio with Justin Termine. If not for just absolute desperation to hear basketball talk since Foster and Valenti utterly refuses to talk about anything other than the Lions, Harbaugh or MSU, I would NEVER willingly listen to Eddie Johnson. He wreaks of "I played the game, so I know". Everytime he says something all I can utter is "who the f**K are you, you're EDDIE Johnson not MAGIC Johnson". But desperation will make you do what you really don't wanna do.
