The Most Impressive Addition so far is...

Post#1 » by FoxToddley » Sun Nov 8, 2015 8:09 pm

Based on the first 7 games which do you think is the most impressive addition to the team so far?

C.J. Watson - Nice to have a solid back up PG option who can shoot the ball. Excellent facilitator (better then I expected) and his defense is also surprisingly good.

Shabazz Napier - Already demonstrated he can be very useful for us in set situations, excellent IQ, good shooter.

Jason Smith - My Pick - Tough, no nonsense big. His shooting is streaky but he gives you the toughness you need in the nba, he's the first off the bench to cheer on his guys and protect them when other teams try to bully. He is exactly what this team needed. Great addition.

Mario Herzonja - We all know his potential, but he looks a little lost out there at times. Defensively he is a step slow atm, and we are all just waiting for him to explode on the shooting end. It will come, and I can't wait to see what he can do once he is settled in.

Love them all but 7 games in, Smith is the game changer.

Defining impressive as unexpected, I'd say Smith.
Defining it in terms of quality of play, I'd say Aaron Gordon. Dude is a special talent who actually can use his athleticism for ridiculous put back dunks, among other things. And, yes, I know he's not "new", but he is relative to the amount he played last season - almost a nonexistent amount.

Skiles and staff. None of these options are even remotely close. We could lose any of them today and it would make zero difference.

I think all 4 have been wonderful additions.

C.J. Watson and Shabazz Napier have been a significant upgrade at the backup point guard position over two guys Willie Green and Luke Ridnour who are now out of the league.

Their shooting definitely helps and Watson is very solid at running the show. They even play together at times which is nice.

Miami definitely made a mistake giving up on Napier.

A week or two ago, I wrote a post about these changes and Smith maybe being a better fit then Kyle O'Quinn. Some scoffed at that but at least early on, Smith is looking really good and does have better range.

The guy is gritty and tough too. Smith's play has also jumped him past Channing Frye on the depth chart.

Mario Hezonja is going to take a little time and we all knew that. He does provide shooting and scoring and I do like his passing ability. He will only get better with time and is only in the first year of that 4 year rookie deal. I think down the line Hezonja could end up being that go-to guy for this team.

We liked Maurice Harkless and his potential. However, it never happened and this has also been an upgrade.

I like all 4 additions and you cannot go wrong with picking any of them.

I think the poll was for players but Skiles and his coaching staff are also a huge upgrade and addition.

The best addition this year is Scott Skiles - but that isn't on the list. I'll go with J. Smith because he's done well in his limited minutes, and has been a huge help especially with Vucevic injured. Wasn't a big name acquisition, but he brings spacing, above-average defense, and every now and then a block or two. Also, Hezonja hasn't been great (rookie, don't put any stock into it, he'll get it going - last night's game was a good start). CJ Watson's been alright, been playing good defense and pretty good Playmaking. Shabazz has been awesome considering what we got him for, we know he can be an excellent scorer, and he's shown flashes - but only flashes.

I guess miss isn't really a fair description, however, so many of the other rookies in his class, both picked before and after him, are looking much better than him.

It's way to early to project anyone a miss at this point in the season.

I would not even want to guess at the potential success or failure of MH right now.

It's also too early to decide which of the acquisitions are great or not right now. Seven games.

So far, their impact has been decent collectively ..... But we have a long way to go.

You can't look at how well/ bad someone is doing by their draft class... We all expected a knock down shooter - but we also all expected the transition to be extremely difficult. He has played pro since he was 11, but that isn't against NBA level guys, huge change in scenery, etc etc -not that i'm making excuses for him, he has not played well for the majority of these 7 games. If you are giving up on him already, you need to get a reality check. He's 20 years old, his first time out of Europe, but you're judging him based on his draft class? That is shocking, many other ways to judge a player - that actually make sense.

I went with CJ Watson. The logic being that he is replacing Willie Green, who was by far my least favorite player. Smith replacing O'Quinn doesn't move the needle for me, Napier over Ridnour is good and all but not as sexy as Watson over Green, while Hezonja over Harkless is a wash at this point.

So there you go, CJ Watson for me.

Voted Smith, but I'd give him a close honorable mention after Skiles and the staff.

Because a message board poll after 7 regular season games in his rookie year is a great indicator.

I'm fine with our pick even today. I take Porzingis if he is there but don't move up to get him. I don't think WCS makes us better. I would have been aggressive on a trade for Kat, 3 first round picks and pick 2 of our players. We need a superstar. Aaron Gordon is our only chance at a legit superstar in my opinion now. He is still a longshot. Superstars are top 8 players. We have possible 4 or 5 all-stars on this team.
