What might a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks mean for the city of Milwaukee? What trends and strategies might shape the future of our downtown? These are big — worthy — questions that a panel of experts will give a full court press come Tuesday.

Come participate in a lively discussion about the planned development related to the arena as well as complimentary beverages and hors d'oeuvres at Radio Milwaukee, 220 E. Pittsburgh Ave., from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Planned by the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the panel discussion will feature Greg Uhen, of Eppstein Uhen Architects and a local partner on the arena project; Carolyn Esswein, director of Community Design Solutions at UWM; Vanessa Koster, of the Department of City Development; Bob Monnat, of the Mandel Group; developer Rick Barrett and others.

There will be tons of blowback when the final plans are released. No matter what the design (inside and out) there will be critics. On a project on such a large scale there will opinions all over the place. I can't wait to see the reaction on this board about how "terrible" it is lol.

Anyone else notice the recent Harley-Davidson sponsorship on the one end? Interesting that they pulled out of Miller Park and now are seen at the BMO for the first time, that I can remember.

Despite Harley's sales downturn, they are still plenty big enough to peel off $4/5 million a year for a naming rights deal. The NBA is an international brand as is Harley. Harley has to get into a younger demographic market. I still think this makes sense.

While I think they can do better than Harley, maybe the stadium and the electric bike launch will be similar dates so it could make sense

I'm hoping that they go for something innovative like no second level on sidelines and three levels stacked directly above each other on the baselines or something like that. Don't know if its feasible or not and I wouldn't be surprised if they stay conservative. Ultimately anything will be better than the BC so I'll be happy but mildly disappointed if they don't go all out.

I doubt the inside will be anything earth shattering or totally unique. And of course this will really upset some people for some reason.

To me, as long as they have really comfortable seats with cupholders, good sightlines, affordable prices, good concession options, and a heated walkway to the garage/other retail, I'm good. All of that should be feasible in this new facility.

That's where I'm at. I've kicked over way too many beers. Cupholders are a no brainer. Sitelines are another one. Baseline to baseline is fine but everywhere else needs improvement.

Of course I want it to look nice but that's very subjective.

We need to keep making sure Edens and Lasry get this point. The more they can link together via skywalk (Parking, restaurants, etc) the more successful this will be.

This is downtown MKE's chance to have a multi-block development that incorporates skywalks. Would be huge I think.

Yup the time to do that is now. Not 5 years from now. "Gee, I wish we would have incorporated skywalks/tunnels, that sure would have been a great thing to have".

The Skyway system is one of the peices that knit's Downtown Minneapolis together (same for St Paul, but on a smaller scale). Even though downtown retail is not the force it was 50 years ago, downtown business folks use it as a quick, safe, temperature controlled way to get around - no small consideration in bad weather.

However, It's a huge investment of money and political capital and takes forward thinkers to make it happen.

Not to mention that that moment comes during a stoppage of play and gets hardly any actual TV time. That is all local advertising.

Mark me down for the opposite reaction, if is too unique I will be upset. As a basic Wisconsinite, I would like the stadium to reflect the state. MKE has great architecture but obviously not in the modern sense (outliers exist of course). I want something that will fit in with what already exists while improving the basketball views and experience.

How do you make sure they get this point?

You guys do know you can get from the Chase Tower/100 E Wisconsin to the Hyatt by skywalk right? And there were already ideas tossed around about a skywalk that connects from the Hyatt/convention center to the new arena. It showed the skywalk going between the Theater/Panther Arena. I wouldn't be that concerned yet.

I'm a practical guy and honestly very little of the design or stadium upgrades will make a difference in my enjoyment. The only thing I care about is wifi and we might be getting that soon anyways.

I guess I don't understand the mindset of having a cup holder, nice atrium, new Jumbotron really making a difference in my decision to go to a game. I could see skywalk making a difference if I actually parked in the structures but I usually uber or walk from bars/street parking anyways.

Can I watch the game, get a cheap beer and access stats on my phone? Yes! Then I'm good.

All I want is more leg room, better acoustics, a few more team shops and one big shop, and of course more appealing concourses.

We do keep making the assumption here that L+E aren't going to get it, because they aren't from Wisconsin. But they are from NY, where there are tunnels everywhere. Look at MSG, Port Authority, and all those areas. Massive tunneling that spans blocks. I think they'll get it.
