Would you trade a future 1st for Markieff?
Scoring depth and starting PF are our 2 weaknesses right now (aside from PG which will be addressed w/ Jennings) and Markieff would help both areas. And now that our lotto days appear over and we are only going to keep getting better, any future 1st picks will likely be in the late teens/20s - meaning its doubtful we get a player as good as him that deep in the draft anyways if we kept it (or at least not one that could produce at his level until a few years after, which does us no good).
Plus the usual argument about rookie contracts being too valuable to give up cap-wise doesn't really apply because Markieff's contract is such a value itself.
We wouldn't have to give up Jennings (or likely even Ersan), as a 1st + Meeks to match salary could probably get it done. Being able to add Jennings/Markieff midseason to what we already have going now (and still have Ersan a quality backup) would really solidify us as a legit playoff team. Not just one that can make it, but win a round or two, and make us that much more attractive to top FAs this summer.
I am cool with trading a pick and think he would be worth it, but my only concern is if we are willing to trade a future 1st perhaps we could get an even better player for it if we waited til Feb. I don't know though because Markieff is pretty good and would address a lot of needs (depth ie. scoring, extra post option, defense at PF, extra backup C option when Baynes isn't playing good).

I'll believe our lotto days are over when I see them over. If Drummond or Jackson (before Jennings gets back) goes down for a significant period of time we are right back to picking in the 7-9 range.
Beyond that, Markieff has had an AWFUL start to the season and is clearly not happy in Phoenix. I certainly wouldn't start by offering them a 1st, if they want to move him for expirings / 2nd round picks (or a top 20 protected 1st) then I'd be game, otherwise I don't see many other teams lining up to give up a 1st and expirings.

I feel like marcus is growing without his brother beside him, wouldn't really want to mess with that. UNLESS you can get him for less than a first rounder; there is no doubt the pistons need someone to replace ersen if he continues stinking up his role in the rotation. The defense could take another leap if ersen was any good on that end.

Obviously you do it for a 2nd if possible, but hard to see them gifting us another Morris for nothing but a 2nd rd pick again (unless they decide to just dump salary which is doubtful).
Being that we don't have many expendable assests player-wise, it may take us giving up a future 1st to add any significant talent via trade at this point. You can only fleece teams with 2nd rd picks and scrubs for so long.
As for the lotto, if you think we will still be there in 2017 then we have bigger issues than PF/depth. I can't agree though. They can also put lotto protection on it just in case. I think its something Stan should consider, personally.

I'm not delusional enough to believe we are pushing the Cavs this year, Stan has added Reggie and Marcus without giving up significant players or 1sts, I'm willing to be patient and let him keep working for bargain deals on underrated players.

Not trading a first round pick unless it it is in the late 20s. There is too much value in a first round pick, especially when we are a young team and could use a young athletic PF with a decent jumper

You know the 2016 draft is very weak imo, I wouldnt mind sending an unprotected as long as they preserve a 2017 first rounder. 2017 should be an absolute loaded draft class that will rival this past seasons. Maybe a first rounder +somthing should get more than markieff?

That's a really good article on Markieff by Zach Lowe from September. I don't think Markieff would be a big upgrade for Detroit. The main reason many are frustrated with Ersan so far is because of his defense and Markieff isn't an upgrade in that department. He's a bit more well-rounded on offense for sure, but not as a deep threat and that's probably more important for the Pistons as a secondary option after the Jackson-Drummond PnR.
Then there's the Marcu-Markieff dynamic that has to be a concern. I'm pretty happy with what Marcus has shown thus far (even with the two techs) and have no interest in seeing what could happen otherwise. Separation has been good for Detroit's Morris.
I don't have any reservations about using a future first round pick in a trade, but not in this case. Markieff just isn't worth it in my opinion.

terrence jones anybody? I know he is a RFA, but gawd would he be a perfect starter/backup in svg's offense. he can shoot threes and has some upside on defense. Ed davis is another guy but he is more of a 5.

Jones isn't much of a floor-spacer either. He can shoot threes, but not well. His percentage improved last season to right around league average but he also had about 70 less attempts than the year before.

I think you are misreading my posts. I said future 1st and you said what if guys get hurt this year. I said Markieff could maybe help us win a round or two this year and you are talking about pushing the Cavs for the Finals.
Anyways, I agree partially in that I would wait to see if we can get a better deal, but wouldn't oppose this deal if we couldn't. Its not about being impatient trying to win now either, as I see Markieff being a great longterm addition to the core as well on a great longterm contract, and I think he and his low contract have more value than a future mid-late 1st. When you consider how good he is and how low his contract is, he is a bargain deal himself, and if they can get him w/o giving up any core pieces - even more so. At least thats how I am looking at it.

Re: Would you trade a future 1st for Markieff?
I wouldn't mind it at the deadline if we are still healthy and winning. He's a good solid backup on a good deal, and could be a starter . I would require a 2nd rd pick from them just to keep the prospects coming in. We are going to need these 2nd picks to cheaply fill the roster in the future, and we already traded several away. Could only be a 10-15 spot drop for there 2nd, which in a bad draft is , could work out to be no loss really. With him on a cheap deal would really allow for a better future team as him as a starter or backup.:

I tend to think Marcus is behaving better without him. Let's keep the bargain and not risk screwing things up.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

You just described Markieff though, which is my point here. Why wait til the draft to fill a need with someone who could be a bust or take 2-3 more years to develop, if we can get that player now (proven) and just entering his prime?
*I like Jones suggestion too btw

Less than inclined to reunite them (for obvious reasons), so I'm going to pass on this. I don't think I want him on my team period.

Re: Would you trade a future 1st for Markieff?
I think THE most compelling reason for why not to do this is that Marcus is thriving with greater usage. This guy is a very good NBA BB player. He's very talented offensively - kind of like Sheed used to be. Now, if we got Markieff, we'd use a 3 man rotation at the SF and PF, with SJ, and the Twins, and with Tolliver being the 4th guy. Tolliver as a 9th or 10th man is a quality rotation piece for any team.
Kieff would take a lot of shots from his brother, and we'd lose the floor spreading our current PF's give us as he's nowhere near as good of a 3 pt shooter as Marcus.

Marcus Morris is 26 and his ceiling is pretty much close to being met. I'd rather take a chance on someone else who will be on a rookie contract.

Not a fan of re-uniting the twins, even if acquiring Kieff didn't cost much in a trade.
