Why is Aaron Gordon buried on the bench?

Post#1 » by OrlChamps2030 » Thu Nov 12, 2015 2:19 am

I haven't watched many of Skiles' interviews, so if he has explained why AG is glued to the bench let me know

Is he on a minutes restriction?

Didn't Skiles say AG was going to get mins at the 3 as well?

No minute restriction, and no reporters have the stones to ask so I guess I can assume that's just the role that Skiles want him in. I'm thinking it's going to be like this all year, tonight was the perfect night to play AG and Tobias together extended minutes since dipo was out but......I guess....I don't know man....maybe he hasn't earned it yet? Maybe he doesn't think AG can play 3? IDK

Because we're intent on ruining his career and we don't need a franchise player.

Oh shut up...

I honestly don't know why he's been getting inconsistent minutes. He was huge in the 3rd with the hustle plays... Just hoping he gets more opportunities for his good play.

I don't know but I have to admit, it's frustrating.

But Coach has been around the league a long time so i'm sure there is a legitimate reason.

We'd rather play Fournier for 42 minutes a game in the wrong position.

In all seriousness, it's probably either because Skiles doesn't trust him, or there is something about him he doesn't like. Or he feels he can't play SF and since he can't dominate PF's then there isn't much place for him. The fact that Skiles would rather have Fournier guarding the likes of Harden and Paul George all game (even when AG is on the floor) tells me he probably doesn't trust him.

I don't quite understand it, and I feel at the moment we're doing a piss poor job of developing him and wasting his talent. Can only hope there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I think he looks good in bursts, much the same as Mario and Elf. But he is still making a lot of bad decisions and general rookie mistakes. Its fine that he does that, its expected, but we are trying to win now, not trying to give our young guys minutes to develop, so he will have to earn his minutes.

He looks pretty ready to me. Consistent two-way effort, hits the boards, gets to the line (!), wants to run, can finish strong at the rim.. He can be a bit erratic at times on the offensive end but he's not a black hole or anything. If you haven't been pleased with what you've seen from him in his limited mins so far I guess we're just seeing different things man

A gross underutilization of one of the most dynamic players on the team. Boggles my mind that it took the 9th game of the season for Skiles to play Harris and AG together.

I just hope Skiles comes to his senses and starts AG at SF or PF and slides Fournier to SG while Dipo is recovering from his concussion.

Because its the Magic. Any other team that's not in the position to truly contend for a title would be playing their youngsters letting them develop as much as possible. This franchise almost never does that. I guess they feel they're going to the Finals every year.

AG's minutes are inconsistent to be sure, but development comes in when guys are placed in the right situations to succeed and become confident. Throwing AG out there in what is arguably a rookie campaign could be beneficial in some cases, and detrimental in others. This is the same with Mario. Remember how long it took JJ to see the court? Would anyone argue that he didn't become a viable 6th man of the year candidate after Stan benched him for multiple seasons (if I recall correctly)? We as fans get excited because AG looks like a monster and is an incredibly exciting player, but Skiles has given him a chance, he has produced well in those games, and one must conclude that eventually, AG will see more time as a result. We aren't the experts.

He's playing 18 mins a game. The only game he was buried on the bench was the pelicans where he played 4. Next game he played 32. Inconsistent minutes are due to inconsistent play especially on the offensive end. He makes a lot of stupid mistakes in short stretches, which is common for the whole team really, but he's young and will get better. I'm sure he'll end up around 25 by the end of the year. Not worried at all, as long as he keeps playing good d and hustling his minutes will increase.
