I disagree. Heels are supposed to be booed for what they say and do, not for their sheer existence. Eva Marie is receiving X-Pac heat, not regular heat. They wouldn't even stop booing long enough for her to talk. We boo Rollins and Owens because they're good heels who say things that make people mad. We boo Eva Marie because she's terrible at her job despite special training that none of the other women received and she's taking time away from more talented women simply because she's the star of a crappy reality show.

Just as an aside, I'm guessing if you were in the building you probably didn't hear a word Eva Marie said. I've been in buildings where you couldn't hear a word a guy said and watching it back they turned down the crowd noise and turned up the mic's.

Anyway, I go back-and-forth pretty much every week on whether she's a good heel or not. She has the reaction you'd want out of a heel and the crowd definitely wants to see Bayley kick her ass so its hard to argue too much with the end result. Conversely though, if you remove the meta-component and look at it through the lens of just what she's done on NXT TV nothing she's done warrants that reaction. If you didn't know anything about her and just know her through NXT TV she's kind of a nominal heel. She doesn't cheat, she doesn't do sneak attacks, she plays the gloating heel to the crowd a little bit during matches but not overly so. So she gets the reaction you'd want but its not because of anything she does as a performer on NXT TV.

Its an interesting paradox and I'm not sure what the answer is. The closest analogy I can come up with is Lita when the Matt stuff happened and she was a babyface at that time. And now matter what she did they were going to get that reaction so they turned her heel and soon her actions were commensurate with her reactions. Obviously they can't do what they did with Lita with her and Eva Marie is not in the same stratosphere as a performer as Lita was at the time. But they haven't made her more vicious, made her cheat, really made her more of a heel ad so you've got this person that gets the right reaction but not because of anything she's done on your programming.

This, to me, has Vince's fingerprints all over it. He probably begged Hunter to give her a title shot because she's a star on Total Divas, and Hunter finally relented, but made sure to put Eva Marie in the worst possible position to prove his point.

Think about it...the audience at Full Sail loathes Eva Marie. They had her almost to the point of tears when she gave that first promo earlier this year, chanting "you can't wrestle." They booed her relentlessly last night to the point where she could barely even deliver her lines. They didn't build up her title shot at all, and in fact announced it a week before it was set to happen. They didn't even bother setting up a feud.

Contrast that to what we saw with Alexa Bliss. Bliss started that feud right after Bayley defended her title and it lasted about two months (of on-air time) before we saw the actual match last night. They built that match up like a legitimate feud. They're treating this Eva Marie match like it's something they have to get over with before they can move on to setting up Bayley's feud for London.

If he insisted she become champion, Eva Marie would be champion. I do think this was probably due to the reality how and this was the compromise the two sides reached.

As far as I know, all final NXT decisions are run through Hunter, not Vince. So while WWE may own NXT, I don't think Vince has any actual creative input. The whole idea behind Hunter running NXT was to show that he could run a successful wrestling company without Vince McMahon's micromanaging so that, when Vince either dies or finally steps down, Triple H will have the business chops to prove that the WWE will be in good hands with him and Steph. That would be undermined if Vince was constantly interjecting and forcing creative decisions on Triple H.

So, with that in mind, I think that, if Vince wants something to happen in NXT, he really does have to ask Hunter.

Also, I think that Nia Jax and Bayley will be fighting at the next Takeover. I'm not sure what Nia Jax has done to deserve a title shot, as she's just squashed a few nobodies in mostly boring matches, but I guess since Emma and Dana are busy with Asuka and Bliss just had her shot, Bayley has to fight someone for the title.

No way they give the belt to Eva Marie, though. Full Sail would riot, and not in a good way. It's one thing to draw heat. Good heels are supposed to do that. But Eva Marie's heat isn't the kind that you want. As I've said, a good heel is hated because of what they say and do, not because of their sheer existence. Eva Marie represents everything that NXT fans hate about the Diva's division, and giving her the belt would undermine everything that Hunter and Steph have done to try and raise the bar for women's wrestling in WWE/NXT.
