Why do Raptor Fans hate Demar Derozan?

Post#1 » by Goudelock » Tue Nov 17, 2015 12:57 am

He's a pretty good scorer who isn't making a huge amount of money. So why do Raptor fans seem to dislike him so much?

Well see here on the raptors board we expect nothing but kd/lebron tier players and they must sign for the minumum. Also if they have a bad game they must look in the mirror. Derozan is a bit worse than those guys so we dont like him here. Plus we dont like guys who work hard and play hard or shooting gaurds who can put up 21 4 and 4. If you have a flaw you cant be liked on this board.

In all seriousness derozan is a very good player in this nba. His shot is average but hes elite at getting to the line, hes great at slashing, has improved defensively, and is great at finding the open man. He has bad games primarly when spacing is an issue like last night when were playing 4 on 5 with biyombo.

Cause he ISOs and chucks every **** play. Idk wat happened to him last season. This guy regressed as a quality player imo. I believe him being an all-star and apart of Team USA has made him cocky af leading him to do whatever the hell he wants during a game.

I really want him to pass the ball more cause when he assists, our offence becomes much more fluid and effective.

He tends to settle for low inefficient mid range jumpshots.

I don't hate him though. Raptors fans have this notion that DeRozan is holding our offense back when his bad shots can be distributed all to Jonas who shoots a higher percentage (and why we don't make Jonas our focal option, that's another topic I've argued to the point of ad nauseam already). DeMar's not talented enough to carry the amount of responsibilities he has, and we really don't have anyone better for the job. Well, there's Lowry, but the last time we asked him to burden the offense he got hurt.

DeRozan's just a guy that doesn't make us worse, but doesn't really make us better too. Like Rudy Gay to Cousins, he's better off being the second option.

I don't think we do. We hate our coach. Since Casey isn't on the floor the fallout lands on the players. Patterson, DeRozan, Ross, Biyombo, at times Scola. They all get hate which should be directed towards the coach.

When a player plays outside of his ability, or time and time again chooses the low percentage road, or shows minimal improvement despite having tools to work with, that is on the coaching staff. When a player gets 18 points in the first half and doesn't touch the ball in the second, that is on the coaching staff. The assistants have played musical chairs for years, but our head coach has been the constant.

Inefficient offensively, although athletic defense is below average.

So after years of research, this is how it goes:

"Our star player is terrible"
"That guy who never plays is amazing"
"Our coach is terrible and needs to be fired"
"Our sixth man should be out of the league"
"We are the best fans"

Obviously a bit tongue in cheek, but not totally inaccurate either.

lol no. What kills the flow is when your shooters can't make a shot for chit. What kills the passing is when your starting center doesn't pass.

He's a product of Casey.
He's been thrust into the "primary scorer" role since he was a young pup, and has been the primary option for some TERRIBLE teams.

He was consistently developed by Casey in terms of:
1. guaranteed minutes
2. guaranteed shots
3. no reprimand for bad shot selection
4. no offensive system to even stay within

On top of that, he's been a career below average defender, a poor shooter (by percentages), has not developped a 3 point shot, and still makes errors in the clutch to the point that most would consider him not to have the "killer instinct" needed to be a finisher in this league.

While I'm sure most fans don't actually "hate" him - hyperbole is a bitch - but rather:
1. They don't think he is worth the $20M contract he will likely get
2. They think he is a net-zero type of player - who does not have an overwhelming effect on winning (aka he can't single handedly win you a game)
3. They don't understand how Casey gave him guaranteed minutes and development time but we don't see that with our other young current prospects

let's see:
1)"He's a pretty good scorer" - what makes you think he is a good scorer??? Do you look only at total points scored?
- fact: His is a very inefficient volume shooter who kills any offensive rhythm for this team by being a black hole in offense.

2) "isn't making a huge amount of money" - agree he gets what he deserves right now, but he will be asking for over $20 mils/year, do you think he will be worth the max payment? I'm afraid MU is dumb enough to do it and Raps will be held back for years...

Fact is DD is a decent player who has reached his limit (will never get the 3pts shot, play defense, improve bball IQ, etc) and could work well as 3rd string type player. I for one don't hate him, but blame the GM and coach since too much weight is weighting on DD's shoulders and he is not talented enough to carry it.

A Shooting Guard that can't shoot threes or defend very well In a small way he can't play his position kind of like Bargs a 7 foot center that cant rebound we were better off with a traditional center and some here think we would be better off with a SG that can shoot threes and defend more and he is going to want the max .

Thank you for all of the responses. To recap:

He's a OK volume scorer who really shouldn't be the #1 option.

He's never developed a 3-point shot, and has more or less reached his potential.

He doesn't pass well.

In fairness to him, I'd dislike him a lot less if he'd never had to become a #1 option on the team. I do still appreciate/like/commend him for improving as much as he has, considering how raw he was out of the draft, and putting himself in a situation where he could at least be a semi-#1 option on an okay team.

As for why I still dislike him... Having lost a lot of his athleticism, he's boring. If one is going to be a boring player, he better be efficient, which he isn't. He turns the ball over a lot when he drives, he has trouble finishing when he drives, he can't shoot the 3 with any consistency, he's still average-at-best on defense... etc. He's basically just free throws and mid-range jumpers.

Which, again, would be kinda fine if he wasn't a leading option on the team. I think that's why Raps fans are often so much more positive with the supporting players than they are with the leads and that's because their flaws are much easier to handle and accept. While every player has flaws, I think stars generally need significantly more positives than negatives... and I don't think that's obviously true of Demar as just a player.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.
