I liked the deal at the time. I remember a lot of us wanted Stauskas with the WoNK pick (lol havent used/seen that term in a while) so Fournier filled that need for us. A lot of people around here really overrated Afflalo and thought he was an all-star caliber player at the time. Probably why some were upset.

Personally I was always pushing for Afflalo for Reggie Jackson (pre Elfrid) but I'm happy with Fournier.

My early impressions/evaluation of him:

Fournier actually looks pretty good. If we didn't have such high expectations for using afflalo in trades, we'd probably be more positive about getting this guy. He's got size, looks like he plays calm and in control, makes 3s, drives and makes the right play. In 12 games where he averaged 30+ minutes this past season, he averaged 19 pts with 42% from 3pt, 5 reb, 3 ast. Not bad for a sophomore player off the bench. He also put up similar numbers as a rookie when given the opportunity.

If you told me I could get a 21 year old SG with 2 year's NBA experience who has proven his deep stroke and is an intelligent unselfish passer with a midround draft pick, I would've said that is exactly what we need. Hell, I wanted something similar to that at pick 12 with Stauskas...yes, KNOWING he would be a backup to Oladipo if Oladipo moved into AA's starting spot at SG. So that's another plus! We open up our flexibility with the 12th pick. Whether to spend it on another position other than backup SG or to flip it in a trade.

I very much like Fournier, but I won't lie and say I love him. I think he's soft, but he's got a good deep stroke, is an intelligent passer and showed flashes of promise. Calm down with the Manu Ginobili comparisons... IMO, this is more like a Marco Bellineli type of guy. ...but with progress, he could be more than that.

Love the way Hennigan continues to impress me. Our flexibility has improved A LOT and we got another piece that fits the puzzle. As Henny says.... NO SKIPPING STEPS!

I was wrong about him being soft! ...and he has REALLY made me a believer over the last week. INSANE... went from a lunatic backup seeking $12M per year to ... me putting Oladipo in trade ideas in the Trade Discussion thread. CRAZY!

It certainly was a good trade. That said, I'd hate to see people play down Arron's success with us. It's not Arron's fault Brian Shaw was a bad coach, and it's not Arron's fault he got injured in the playoffs. I don't know what happened in the earlier part of Afflalo's tenure with the Trailblazers, but in his second year on the Magic Arron was a very good scorer, and I found him very fun to watch.

I couldn't quite remember my initial reaction but I knew I liked the deal to a degree. Quite "proud" of myself after finding my first post about the trade...

What a move by Henny! No one saw this coming...classic Henny.

I really had to step back and think about this one but I love it. Fournier proved he can play on an NBA level last year and has nice upside. Any late-lotto pick we may have been able to trade Afflalo for would have been far from guaranteed. I like this move a lot.

That's not how i view it. I knew fournier was a helluva player before we got him and im pretty sure opposing scouts and gms viewed him that way as well.
