So honest question, I haven't watched a vikings game all year, but I hear they have looked solid. Is their Oline that bad?

Because the D did a fantastic job of constantly putting the vikings in terrible down and distance and that limited AP's ability to hurt us. Taking AP out of the equation it looked like the Vikings couldn't do much. I'm just wondering how the D got so many sacks.

With the struggles Linsley has had this year, if hypothetically Tretter has to play next week and does well, would the coaching staff hand him the starting job going forward?

I thought he was a pretty clear upgrade to the Linsley we've seen lately, without a doubt.

Normally, I'd say a guy isn't going to lose his job because he got hurt-- that's the standard operating procedure-- but if Rodgers wanted Tretter, I guess they'd be inclined to give him the C he wants possibly.
I assume Linsley can play different O-line spots the same as Tretter can, right? Because if not, that'd be a consideration I guess.

Let's not forget how Linsley got the job to begin with.

I had totally forgotten about that. The ironing would truly be delicious.

I think they have a pretty average O-line and they've had injuries too (didn't they have one mid-game too?). But their O-line isn't any worse than SDs or DETs for example.
The difference maybe is Bridgewater- he's not as experienced as other QBs we've faced with average or poor O-lines, and so the ball doesn't come out as fast, Teddy's reads aren't as fast. Thus, sacks.
That's just a theory though. Another theory is: there is absolutely no explanation why this D-line wins most of it's battles some days and other days cannot win any :D
Also, I think you're right- we took them out of their game, they had to play from behind a bit too which they're not built to do. I mean, it's not a prolific, quick-strike offense in general.

FINALLY, can we stop dumping off to Dick Rodgers? He must lead the league in catches for ZERO yards. He has at least 1-2 each game during the losing skid and he had another today. Cripes I'd rather you dump off to Kuhn or RIP, they are not fast but at least might break a tackle or move a pile for 2 yards unlike Dick. I'm really frustrated with Dick.

There is pretty good coverage of the Packers in the press be it from JSonline or in Green Bay, but why hasn't anyone asked McCarthy and/or Clements why the hell does Richard Rodgers get so many snaps, especially on obvious passing down?

This has been driving me crazy for a long time and it's so baffling. McCarthy and the rest of the offensive staff have been coaching football longer than some fans have been alive, yet i simply can't grasp why they keep putting Dick Rod out there flanked in the slot on clear passing downs, including 2nd or 3rd and long. Why are they doing this??

He not only can't get open or run well after a rare catch, he also doesn't force a defense to shade any safety coverage towards him like a quality TE does. I don't care if Janis did nothing except run a straight fly pattern downfield every single snap he was out there in place of Dick Rod and signaled to the defense pre-snap that he was going to do so, at least the safety to his side would have to keep an eye on him in case Janis beat the corner, thus potentially opening space for Cobb, Jones, or Adams.

It can be say 2nd or 3rd and 10 or more, yet constantly there will be Richard Rodgers flanked off the line of scrimmage plodding along on his route as if he was running in thick mud. How the hell can coaches who have been in the business for decades keep putting Rodgers out there snap after snap even though after half of the season is done and it should be patently obvious to them that the guy can't get open beyond 2-3 yard dump offs? Uggggg. :dontknow:

I think they actually did a decent enough job (rather than previous weeks) of not making Dick-Rod a focal point. I agree though, even when the dude is wide open in the flats, you're almost better just not to throw to him because he isn't going to do anything before the defender closes in. I mean, he makes Bubba Franks look like Jimmy Graham out there.

Not much we can do to address it until the offseason, but like I've been saying for weeks, Quarless returning is going to be a big boost to our passing and run-blocking game. I'm really excited to see him back Thursday.
