So who is the best player on the Lakers now?

Post#1 » by PKABOOICU » Tue Nov 24, 2015 2:48 pm

The best player went from the Lakers went something like this, with a few gaps in-between-

George Mikan
Jerry West
Wilt Chamberlain
Kareem Abdul Jabbar
Magic Johnson
Shaquille O'neal
Kobe Bryant

(with the slew of stars in between like pau gasol, nick van exel, eddie jones, glen rice, james worthy, etc)

almost every year (minus a few here and there) these guys have, essentially, been the best player on the Lakers...who gets the title today? Is it still Kobe? Jordan Clarkson perhaps? D'angelo Russell? Julius Randle? Lou Williams?

I'd say Jordan Clarkson is the best player on the Lakers now.

Hibbert then the three young guys. Clarkson is the best scorer but he does nothing else.

Clarkson, Randle, russell.

But in the next couple of years I think Russell will be the best.

The best player so far this season to me has been Roy Hibbert with Clarkson second and after that it isn't too close in my mind.

I must agree with this statement.

Hibbert has silently been a serviceable center and an anchor on defense. Clarkson has avoided the sophomore wall, and currently our best 2 way (offense/defense) player, with more poise than last year.

Randle and Clarkson may come as 3rd tier, even after lou williams, imo.

Clarkson has been one of our worst defenders.

Although he cannot play defense and his shot is horrid, Kobe is still the best player on our team right now. His IQ (although it doesn't show in stats) is still the highest. I am not saying Kobe is having a great year because we all know he is not. But Kobe is the best player right now on our team.

Question for the older guys: was Jerry West actually better than Elgin Baylor? Or was there ever a point when it was Baylor's team? How's that dynamic work? Because man they both put up crazy numbers.

Funny how the two players mentioned most prominently as the best on the team are playing for new contracts.

Money, the great motivator.

Not really. They are the best players on our team regardless. At least until Russell and Randle get more experience.

I actually think Lou Williams has been the best player so far. Clarkson and Randle coming in a close second.

Clarkson on offense, Hibbert on defense. Our best two-way player might be Nick Young or MWP

I think Hibbert has been a disappointment in most areas.

Positives:

- Good shot blocker
- Good mid range jumper (Free throw shooting as well)
- Good teammate/leader

Negatives:

- Zero post game, including zero offensive moves
- Falls down all the time
- Can't guard pick and roll
- Awful at setting picks, either working with the ball handler or setting back picks for guards/wings on the move
- Awful in transition, offensively or defensively

Where has his post game gone? A Dallas Mavericks broacaster, after watching Hibbert shoot a jump hook said on air "It looked like he was letting go of a balloon," and I can't say I disagree.

Clarkson's been really good (outside of last nigh) so +1 for that lol.
