Re: 2016 NBA Draft/College Basketball Thread
Simmons is by far the best prospect. But you guys need perimeter scoring. Simmons probably won't be able to play the 3 in the NBA and he has no perimeter jumper. So you guys would have Okafor, Embiid, Saric, Noel and Simmons. Simmons would start from day 1 and I presume Okafor would start at the 5. Now I think that's a better fit than Okafor and Noel, so I guess you guys would have to trade away some of your bigs for perimeter talent or more draft picks. But with how your team is looking like for next year, Simmons would be the best option but still a bad fit unless you guys move a lot of assets

Yes. Simmons can't shoot right now.
But that does not mean you pass on him for that. Teh Gm in the wiretap put it best..yes he can't shoot but he does a lot of other things really really well. Dude is a good athlete (not LeBron..,but who the **** is), big enough, has good handle and vision and can create fo himself.
The latter is the most important because news flash we need that too. Even if Simmons is the worst shooter in the world (he's probably not), the simple fact that he can get his own shot is a valuable skill that this team really really needs. We need shooters no doubt but we also need dudes who can just get a good look. Our spacing may be ass but you put Simmons in for Grant and suddenly Grants Yolo drives become a problem because unlike Grant, Simmons has touch and vision so it won't be as one dimensional because he can actually pass the ball and also finish.
Yes we need shooters but we need other things as well...such as creators and what do you know...Simmons is exactly that. wow amazing isn't it.

Re: 2016 NBA Draft/College Basketball Thread
to me some things are just really simple.
you have players that enter the draft and you know from the start they are just head and shoulders above everyone else- Anthony Davis, Derrick Rose, John Wall, the likes of those guys
Ben Simmons is one of them. Pulling your hair out because he isn't a Steph Curry shooter or whatever just seems like a waste of energy to me.

Simmon's not being able to shoot is a alarming weakness. I do not see a nba star like everyone else. I see a flashier Alpha male Aaron Gordan. This guy is not the athletic specimen that Blake Griffin or Lebron is as a player. He will need to learn how to shoot in the nba if he want's to be a 3 or even a 4 . He looks good against scrubs but how will he look when good-great college teams start checking him. I am not sold on him yet! He is a horrible fit for the 76ers with all the front court players Jah, Embiid, Noel and Saric. We need knock down shooters and scorers on the perimeter Murray , Ingram and Brown in that order.

You do realize we can still surround shooters around Simmons right?

I would not trade Jah and Embiid to build around Simmons. I think the have dominant scoring and defensive potential. So that leaves to post big men , two shooters and Ben Simmons. No need for a tradition point guard guys like canaan become useful. I would look into Bradley Beal, Russel, Jamal Murray or Smart for Noel .

Re: 2016 NBA Draft/College Basketball Thread
Jamal Murray is pretty impressive to me. I know he isn't the "prize" like Simmons, but i think he would fit in really well here.
Kid can shoot from the perimeter, handle the ball, drive and pass. Could see him being a lethal combo in the PNR/POP game with Okafor and our bigs.
Landing that Laker pick would be fantastic but seems like it may end up being a longshot. Lets hope they can string together a few wins.Id love to be able to add 2 of the top 10 prospects in the draft to this team along with Saric and hopefully Embiid next season. Would make for an exciting season for once.
The passing of Dario and Murray added to this roster would be beautiful to watch.

Re: 2016 NBA Draft/College Basketball Thread
People really need to stop acting like these kids are finished products. There is too much "oh he can't play this position because he lacks a skill he can gain..." going on. We aren't talking about height or athleticism...but rather a jumpshot. Lots of 19 year olds have to work on that part of their games...Simmons doesn't seem to need a jumper right now because of his advantages. Stop putting him in a box...he has time to grow and add that to his game.
also stop worrying if he fits with anybody on the current roster. If he is that good, then he will dictate who stays..not the otherway around.
I like Murray too (mainly because I am trying super hard not to get on the Simmons bandwagon only to be blown out at the lottery lol). We've also seen Murray do it big against grown ass men.

I don't give a damn what simmons is doing he can't shoot. Give me Ingram who is already showing potential to be a knock down shooter and has a pull up J. I like his handles, passing and his length to deflected passes. I think Ingram can be groomed into a Kawah Leonard type wing. Adding Ingram fits the 3 and D mold that we are trying to develop Grant , Covington and Thompson into as role players.

Have you watched Ingram play? It doesn't seem like you have otherwise you wouldn't have said that. He hasn't even played well and got demoted to come off the bench.

Talent wise he's good, but, damn.... HE CAN'T shoot! I don't expect he'll be shooter like Steph Curry, but I'm afraid he's ceiling can be Andre Iguodala... or even MKG.
Good, quality defence will shut him down completely.
If we'll take him I feel sorry for Brett Brown already - Simmons, Noel, Okafor in one team... amazing talents but probably for 3 different teams..

Re: 2016 NBA Draft/College Basketball Thread
As long as you view Ben as a point guard on offense, you wont be too disappointed with him. He probably guards the 4 spot in the NBA but you got to give him the ball alot to get full value out of him, let him create.
