Starting Al is one is of the smart things I think Cliff is doing this year. He starts Al and gets Al early touches to get the offense rolling. If Al's rolling the D has to think about collapsing, double-teaming, watching for cutters. Yosemiteben has posted links that show the starting unit sports a high rating. But Cliff has shown the willingness to bench Al in Q4 when defensive stops are needed, or if another particular unit is playing well, and I think that's where he's showing his brass you know whats.

I'd be satisfied seeing Frank take Spencer's spot in unit 2.

Before the season started, NBATV analysts predicted Steve Clifford to be the first coach fired this season.

sure, it could still happen... but i wouldn't bet on it.

It is the right decision.

I wonder if this will effect any of Clifford's choices in terms of how he runs the team since it will take away the win-now pressure.

Clifford has really improved as a coach this season.

I think a lot of the time fans forget that coaches develop as much as players.

I think there are many coaches better than Clifford but none that would sign here.

Congrats to BRD.

very true

and i never really liked cliff in his first two years but seeing him grow has been eye opening in a lot of ways. i remember when he wouldn't budge from his 4th quarter lineups - now he's turned into a guy who'll trust a hothand and gamble on a bench player creating a matchup problem. his trust level with players has skyrocketed too.

I loved Cliff in his first season but he quickly lost me as a fan in his second.

His third has been rather positive so far, I'm glad we've had a slow start because Cliff and the players have had to respond to the adversity and have responded magnificently.

It's so nice to finally (hopefully) have some stability in the role of head coach.

After being a revolving door for has beens (Brown and Silas) and never were's (Vincent, Dunlop) over the past 11 years let's hope we have our long term solution who can help build and shape the team - and along with that find successes.

I can't begin to express how much I love that he connects with the players so well.
