Re: JAYLEN BROWN THREAD
I've said this a year ago and I'll say it again: Why is no one talking about him and when Wiggins was at Kansas there was a bunch of hype? Wiggins is quicker and has a slightly better shot, but Jaylen is much stronger and he has that pitbull attitude, never backs down from a challenge. Also think he's the better distributor. I really don't think there's much difference between the two.

That's what also kept Jimmy Butler down.
How good do you see him becoming? I remember seeing an article that said he could've went lotto back in 2014, even higher than Aaron Gordon.
Players often get overrated in high school. I think he's Jimmy Butler, possibly prime Joe Johnson if he can pick up his shot. I'd still take Gordon over him.

He was killing it at Adidas camp in Italy at the time. Obviously it was all potential. Too bad we can't watch every single game since he's at Cal.
"what am I going to do with all these picks?

You think he's jimmy butler or prime joe johnson but you would still take Gordon over him? Am I missing something?

Gordon is what? 20 years old? I think he still has a bunch of untapped potential. Granted they're both probably going to max out their skill at the same level, stretch fours that can defend and handle the ball are really valuable. He can become that type of player with more time.
And don't worry, I know most here hate Aaron Gordon's potential. I remember his thread was a bashing thread. I still believe in him.

I like Gordon a lot too especially on defense, but he's not really a stretch 4 if he's only making 0.6 threes per 36..

Wiggins is just a much much more smooth player. That system in Kansas did him no good. They're not really on the same level as prospects imo.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Jaylen Brown is one of the most talented athletes ever to wear our blue and gold. Just a freshman, but already he looks the part. And, unlike many with his physical skills and abilities, he is extremely intelligent -- which is why I am confident that, as good as he already is, we are going to see him blossom and mature into an incredible player by the end of this year.
Brown's biggest problem right now is that he plays too much as an individual -- a forgivable flaw considering his amazing talent. When you are as good as he is, why wouldn't your instinct be to take the ball to the rim every time you touch it? But once Brown learns to play within the offense, to rely less on isolation, less on trying to cut through defenses, less on taking on four guys at once and taking them all to the rim, and more on using his teammates, drawing double teams and kicking to the open man, working with his bigs, he will create more open shots, keep defenses from keying in and collapsing on him, and when that happens, he will truly be special. Brown will figure this out. I'm certain of it. And in the meantime, we can settle for lines like 17 points and 7 boards, 6/10 from the field in only 21 minutes. I think I can live with that for now...
I agree, the decision making will improve as he learns to play with his team. Throughout AAU and HS, it was basically all him. How do you think he'll fare again Pope? Pope is long and athletic and projects to be a good defender.
Pope isn't burning it up. He is not in the same league as Brown. SDSU will play 40 minutes of hell defense all over the court. It will be interesting how we handle that, although it will help that Brown can handle and pass like a guard. I was really impressed by his passing ability in the last game. He's not just seeing guys, but he's putting passes on the money too.

I suspect Shephard and Cheatham of SDSU will guard Brown.
The Cal game to watch is versus Virginia.

He's not a stretch four right now, but he can become one in time. Hence the word "become."

Sure, a lot of players can become stretch 4s.. But I don't see the evidence in Gordons case to suggest he'll ever be a stretch 4.. He's more of a playmaking defensive 4 with a mediocre shot if anything, like Draymond Green

Let's just say he'd fit in much better in the late 90's/early 00's.

Re: JAYLEN BROWN THREAD
Jaylen Brown has tons of improving to do. It's really early in the season, but right now, Jaylen Brown does not look like a guy that's going to be picked Top 3 in the 2016 NBA Draft. His foul shooting isn't great, his decision making is poor, and he isn't that great of a shooter. He had 7 points on 2-8 shooting from the field last night while also shooting just 2-4 from the foul line. He is averaging 16.3 points per game, but he is shooting 44.7% from the field, 20% from 3-point range, and 64.5% from the foul line. So, he's been getting his points, but he hasn't been all that efficient.

Brown played like a guy who could get drafted really high in June. It was encouraging to see him refuse to have two bad nights in a row.
