Simmons would need to play beside embid because he can't shoot. If that happens I think you trade okafor for a guard and go from there, with Noel off the bench

I'd imagine they run a line up of:
5: Embiid
4: Okafor
3: Noel
2: Simmons
1: Saric
All the rebounds are belong to us. I'm convinced they're trying to purge guards off the roster and small ball out of the NBA.

Yes they will have cap space but realistically no star will want to go there until that talent develops... and even then, you have to "pay" for that talent which could limit who they could sign.

And even still, it'll be hard to shed a culture of losing. Look at Orlando with the talent they have or heck, even the Cavs when LeBron returned. It took time before the young guys on the team finally learned how to win, and it took one of the greatest players of all time to teach them how to do it.
Shedding a culture of losing is very very easy in the NBA actually. You get all time historic players and the losing culture evaporates quickly. Your example on Cavs is a bad one because once Lebron returned, they went from no playoffs to the finals.

they won 50+ games last season for goodness sake.
coincidently enough when you add star players to your roster, you tend to learn how to win pretty quickly.
Given a Lebron-level star player is way out of reach for PHI, I am not sure what the comparison is trying to imply....
The point is that this lingering losing culture is a myth. If you have the right players, then a team can snap out of their funk very quickly. The problem with Philly is the lack of talent, and not this losing culture that people like to point out to (for no good reason other than the fact that they heard other people do the same thing).

Re: What's Phillies outlook if they get Ben Simmons?
theres more than ben simmons coming assuming they nab him
theirs a 50% chance they get the lakers 4th pick which will turn to a possibly dynamic SG ala jamal murray
plus saric, embiid, OKC 1st, and the miami 1st
this could be a realistic lineup after next year's draft:
pg: mcconnel/demetrius jackson/canaan
sg: murray/stauskas/wroten/thunder 1st rounder(insert shooter here)
sf: ingram/covington/grant
pf: embiid/saric/holmes
c: okafor/noel

if they get ben simmons, they have a chance to get actual decent free agents, they also need embiid to return and add multiple players in draft and free agency to get out of lottery, but it changes the whole situation and organization to get a player like this.

That would actually be somewhat intriguing lineup. That team really would dominate the boards. Spacing would be a mess, but if they replaced Noel with a shooter, then why couldn't that lineup be fun to watch?

if embiid ends up healthy , it doesnt matter who they add in this year's draft
if he ends up injured again, it is crucial they hit on at least 1 pick next year

They're going to need to be able to sign some free agents, though. They're going to net some veterans. Or... anybody. They can't just draft everybody. Can they?
****, I don't know.
What does that even mean? We'll start to win when the players we draft are good enough to win. People have it in their minds that Hinkie trades players over and over. The only young player he traded that was going to be part of our future was MCW, and we got the Lakers pick for him. Other than that he traded all the dead weight of the previous regime (Evan Turner, Thad Young, Hawes) etc. that weren't part of the future.
It is such a misnomer that we're trying to tank. WERE TRYING TO REBUILD. However, unlike other GMs/FOs that scam their fan base with pointless wins, Hinkie went all in. Instead of signing some players that could make us a few games better, he is simply relying fully on the young guys and drafted players. Next year if things work out well have a **** ton of some good young talent. We will probably still be bad, but if those players work out winning wont be far behind.
What don't people understand? YOU BUILD CONTENDERS IN THE NBA through the draft.
The Bulls got lucky and landed #1 pick to get D-Rose, since then they've been contenders
Warriors were a treadmill team with Baron Davis, sucked for a few years accumulated Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Barnes, Green, eventually became contenders.
The list goes on down EVERY contender in the league.
Even the Cavs, they lose LeBron and suck hard core. Over few years they acquire Irving, Wiggins, Thompson, Waiters. Having these assets helped them to draw LeBron back & to be able to trade Wiggins for a star in Love.

Him and Roob's playmaking would be semi-redundant. Skal next to Towns up front, however, would be menacing. That, and I have more faith in Skal's jumper going forward.

What's the cap next year - $88 mil? Add cap holds for two high picks, as many as four, the Sixers payroll will be around $48 mil. That means $40 mil in cap space = one player? Two, perhaps?
Landry, Wroten, Canaan and Hollis Thompson come off the books in June 2017. That's $12 mil. The cap rises to $108 mil. We'll get our vets and free agents if we need them.
2016-2017 payroll
Carl Landry $6,750,000
Joel Embiid $4,826,160
Jahlil Okafor $4,788,840
Nerlens Noel $4,384,490
Nik Stauskas $2,993,040
Tony Wroten $3,201,471
Richaun Holmes $1,024,000
Robert Covington $1,015,696
Isaiah Canaan $1,215,696
Hollis Thompson $1,015,696
Jerami Grant $980,431
Jakarr Sampson $980,431
TJ McConnell $874,636
Kendall Marshall $2,100,000
Christian Wood ??
TOTALS $36,100,000

Re: What's Phillies outlook if they get Ben Simmons?
Philly has a small handful of decent shooters in Thompson, Sauce, Covington, and when he's on Canaan. Simmons can't shoot so he'd need to be paired with one of these guys in the back court, but only Covington is worth anything and he's a SF. At the front court they have Okafur and Embiid who are awesome post players and Embiid can space the floor if he's ever healthy, but Noel and Okafur need space. Saric will help but he won't be enough.
Basically their lineup going forward in an NBA that's starting to focus more on the three is...
PG: Simmons (Can't shoot)/Canaan (Streaky Shot)
SG: Sauce (Okay shot, still trying to figure it out)/Wroten (Their teams Swaggy P)
SF: Covington (Can shoot)/Thompson (Can shoot)/Grant (Can't shoot)
PF: Okafur (Outta position post player that needs space)/Saric (Can space the floor decently)
C: Noel (Offensive black hole)/Embiid (See Greg Oden)
And out of their shooters, Covington is the only one who's shown he belongs in the league...They'll have to win big on FA to do any damage with Simmons. They need a Steph Curry type player with this roster.

Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

so then you agree with me. Regardless,,,,, if hinkie drafts poorly then he IS doing something wrong. You're missing my sarcastic yet precise point.

Anywho'z,,, you dont build on a cr@p team by drafting defensive players like noel. In a game focused on scoring points, you build with offense. Drafting for defense comes later

Like some have said. They are more than one player away. Plus all their young players have been taught a losing culture. That's harder to break than you think. Even when OKC had Durant and Westbrook, it still took like 3 years for them to really get going.
Dynasty talk is premature for sure.
Plus I remember how great Wiggins was supposed to be, and he's been good, but he hasn't turned the Wolves fortunes around single-handedly yet. You just never know how these guys will do when they hit the pros.

Almost beat Heat, Wolves and the Celtics if only the team has a perimeter playmaker right now. Ish Smith could have gotten the job done or maybe even just Jamal Murray using the Lakers' pick.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Well at a minimum I expect they might start winning games.
