Official 2016 NBA Draft thread

Post#1 » by MotownMadness » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:38 pm

I love watching college ball and checking in on future prospects throughout the season so i figured i would start one. Right now Ben Simmons is looking like one pf those onve in a generation talents like a better version of Odom. As of right now and where i think we will be picking range im liking Caris LaVert. I would like to pick up a sixth man combo guard to gover both backcourt positions if we lose Jennings and he fits the bill right now.

Jackson/LaVert
KCP/LaVert
Morris/Johnson
Horford/Illy
Drummond/Baynes

Player stocks will change, and we have no idea where we'd even be picking. Tough to have any fruitful discussion on the draft front yet.

Im sure some of our posters still like college ball though and like every other team forum its fun to discuss some of the prospects throughout the college season.

Oh sure, we can definitely discuss prospects. I just don't see the point in discussing them specifically with respect to how they might fit with the Pistons though, unless people enjoy purely hypothetical discussion, which I'm sure some people might.

I demand a title edit. "Dtraft" is not a word.

Malik Pope!
Best Talent/Fit combo I've seen yet for the Pistons
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

I for one, love hypotheticals. I've already been scouting guys, watching film and imaging how we'd fit them into our team. Of course, there's no way of knowing where we'll pick or who will be available, that's why you scout lots of players.

Pure hypotheticals are fun, so I'll throw out a few more names (and BTW, I really like both Pope and LaVert, too) —

• Homer pick here, but if we're looking for a backup PG I like Kris Dunn of Providence.

• Denzel Valentine of MSU; I loved Draymond Green's quote of (essentially), "When will people just recognize that he can play?" I kinda got the feeling he was experiencing deja vu watching Valentine get judged much the same way he did, from the same program no less. If there's a parallel there and Valentine's game translates to the NBA the same way Green's did, he could be a steal.

• I have a hunch he's either gonna wind up going MUCH higher than we'll pick or else MUCH lower, but what about Zhou Qi of China? 7'2" shot-blocking stretch big man ... sounds like Porzingis. Which makes me think he's either gonna rise or fall the more he gets scouted and the more teams learn about him.

One kid I like is Justin Jackson of UNC. He's got range, yet can work down low. He needs to add strength, but he's never going to be a bulky guy. I think he can play sf/pf on our team.

Valentine is a no-brainer if available!

Qi will probably go too high

I'm assuming we make the playoffs so the draft will not be as exciting this year. Regardless, we still should be able to get a rotation level player if we pick in the late teens.

Here's to hoping come June we're discussing prospects in the mid-late first.

I'd put Skal ahead of Simmons mainly because Simmons jumper is very bad.

For a guy that looks like he could just dominate, he makes some of the most head-scratching decisions. I don't think he'll ever realize his potential, he just seems mentally off.

I'd be happy with LeVert. I figure we'll be picking mid first round and he'll go around there. Would love to add Valentine as well, but I'm sure he'll jump into the 20-30 range at least.

This draft is looking really weak. Hopefully we can get a gem.

would really like to see us target nigel hayes. he should be right in our range (a predicted mid-late 1st rounder,) and would fit in greatly with our young core.

his feel for the game and ability to space the court would make him a natural fit for our offense, while his length and ability to comfortably switch on P&R's would bolster our defense. obviously there would be a developmental period, but he could be the perfect PF for us down the road. that being said, i'd love to see him play behind al horford for a few seasons :D

I figure we finish between 10-16 barring a Dre injury. Probably a spot for more veteran college players as the first third of the draft goes for home run swings on upside talent of frosh and soph players. Denzel Valentine makes sense for us around this slot(15-16). Could also see Demetrious Jackson assuming Jennings walks and Dinwiddie is judged not to be in our long term plans.
