If North Carolina beats Clemson in ACC Championship, should they make playoff?
I don't think they would, but should they?

alabama, notre dame, big ten champ all get a spot unless there are big surprises. so it would come down big 12 team and north carolina, i would favor north carolina against baylor and ok state probably not against oklahoma.

They'll need Alabama to lose to Florida for there to be a chance. But then Florida quite possibly could make it instead. Oklahoma winning made even harder for them to.

I'd say at this point, the playoff teams are Clemson, Alabama, Michigan State/Iowa winner and Oklahoma

Florida has no shot even if they beat Bama, they have 2 losses, and frankly their offense is so pathetic nobody would want to watch that.
I think Ohio State has a tiny bit of a shot to get in if Clemson or Bama lose. I do not seeing the playoff comittee leaping UNC over Ohio State seeing OSU is worth a ton more money and OSU is the reigning champs.
I doubt Clemson or Bama lose though.

UNC would have better wins than OSU if they beat Clemson. Clemson and Pitt would be a lot better than Michigan

Ohio State, whether they deserve to be there or not, has absolutely no chance. There's no way a team that didn't play for a conference championship gets in over a 1-loss major conference winner or a 1-loss major conference loser, i.e. Clemson or Iowa.

people said the same thing about national championship few years ago, yet two sec teams alabama and lsu ended playing for the title, with alabama getting there without playing for conference championship. there is a precedent.
osu will be ranked 6th which is de facto 5th since one of msu or iowa will drop back after the big ten title. in the very unlikely event alabama loses to florida, osu would end up the best candidate to replace em.

Re: If North Carolina beats Clemson in ACC Championship, should they make playoff?
A valid point given that the circumstances for Ohio State, should Michigan State beat Iowa, are certainly similar to the LSU-Alabama championship game. But as you and I have discussed elsewhere there is no way the powers-that-be are going to put two Big 10 teams in the playoff. Plus the Alabama-LSU game was the result of a 1-2 ranking, not a 1-4 ranking decision.

2 out of 4 should be easier to get than 2 out of 2. i do think it is unlikely for osu but i dont see a better case for any other team if florida beats alabama.
clemson loss probably doesnt do whole lot though, unc would have a better case. unless committee wary of jumping them like 10 spots.

FWIW UNC is 8th in the AP poll and think that they'll be around there as well in the playoff rankings. If they are ranked around there and beat Clemson, I think they get in.

My point about LSU-Alabama is that the committee wasn't going to drop the consensus #2 Alabama from a two team playoff even though both teams were from the same conference.
I think it comes down to more than just Florida beating Alabama; for OSU to have any shot I think Clemson, Alabama and Michigan State all have to lose. Then two spots clearly go to Iowa and Oklahoma and I don't see how you could keep 1-loss NC out after beating the nearly consensus #1 Clemson. You'd think Alabama and MSU would have be out with two losses, one of them being in the most recent game. Florida, even with a win over 'Bama, has the recent loss to FSU and also two losses; you'd have to figure that would knock them out. Clemson could still make a claim for #4 as could OSU. But since Iowa is already in I'm guessing the committee would take a 1-loss ACC championship game loser over a 1-loss Big 10 championship game non-candidate.
'Bama is likely going to crush Florida so it all becomes moot after that imo. Then you've got a clear three spots in 'Bama, Oklahoma and MSU/Iowa, and as I mentioned previously if NC beats Clemson I don't see how they could be kept out.

Oklahoma didn't play a conference championship and their in. Yes the have been named the de-facto B12 winner but their was no ccg.
Normally I would agree with you, but seeing as Ohio State is the reigning champ, only loss came to a team that very well may be in the playoffs and lost without even trailing a second of game time. Reigning champ $$$$ maker already at 6 would likely be in over UNC who isn't worth near as much and is all the way back at #14.
I would actually expect Clemson to stay in over a loss before I'd expect UNC to jump that far.

ohio state would have no claim over unc outside of glamour and glitz. unc's best win and even second best win would be better, and their only loss came months ago. not the mention conference champ thing.

So you are saying this Clemson/NC game is meaningless? If they put in Clemson over UNC if UNC wins, that would be crazy. As far as as conf championships, OK basically won it because it's a small conference and they play everyone. When every team doesn't play every other team like in other conferences, that point makes more sense.

I saw that North Carolina team get blown out in person last year in Miami. Can't believe they were only a TD away from beating the #1 ranked team and winning the ACC.

North Carolina is very worthy of a New Years 6 bowl game

If I am UNC I am pretty salty that I have to watch garbage Ole Miss play in a New Years day game while they fall out.
