Moving to D.C

Post#1 » by JWizmentality » Thu Dec 3, 2015 12:01 am

Hey ya'll. Job is relocating me to D.C. Need some insight into some good areas for my apartment search. Looking into the Silver Spring area or Baltimore. Appreciate it.

Multiple, my main search area is silver spring and Baltimore. Or 30-45 mins out from these.

Why would you wanna live in Baltimore, if you work in DC? I live in Silver spring now and it's really nice, but a little expensive. I'd recommend anywhere close to a metro station (MoCo, PG, NoVa). Trust me, you don't wanna be driving into DC for work everyday.

Yeah, Baltimore is a no go.

Silver Spring has improved over the years. If you have the money, Northern Virginia is nice. I live in McLean and love it. I don't work in D.C. though, I actually work in McLean, so it works out better, but still in McLean you can live near the metro(although with the Silver Line you can live in most places in NoVA now and still get to D.C. by metro).

How much cheese ya got? Silver Spring (Red line) is the best thing happening right now, a poor mans Bethesda....but not that poor, buildings are going up and rents are pretty $$$. Everything yo could want is there and you are right next to DC if you want to drive.

Silver Spring or Arlington is where you you want to live right now, Im making the move to Arlington early next year because of my job and the fact that Im in VA 90% of the time instead of MD.

Congrats on the job JWiz!

Echoing others, Silver Spring is really great. Very diverse demographically and socio-economically. Tons of great ethnic restaurants. Proximity to the Beltway means it's easy enough to get pretty much anywhere. Convenient to BWI/Baltimore if you have business up that way. Close to DC as well.

PG County is less expensive and good proximity to Baltimore and DC

Montgomery County in general has gotten too expensive and crowded for my tastes

Wheaton is cool, JWiz. Diverse and good restaurants. On the Red Line.

The Upper Marlboro/Largo area is pretty good. No night life to speak of but to just live day to day to nice. Been living there for about 2 years now. I can get into the city in 25, Silver Spring in 20 and Baltimore in usually about 45. All depending on traffic of course. You should definitely at least look in that area.
