Big win. With how young we are, to come out of this stretch with wins over VCU and Syracuse is pretty big.

Amazing. Awful game from the "elder statesmen" Koenig and Hayes, and they still won!

Team would be looking pretty good if not for that stupid Western Illinois game.

This is a fun team. There will continue to be lots of growing pains, but I am looking forward to us hitting our stride come tourney time. Be the hunter rather than the hunted. We WILL make the dance.

Anyone hear anything about the Bo affair rumor? I just talked to my folks, but haven't heard much.

A chance to keep it within 10 I guess.

I didn't think Hayes was awful at all.

Not great, but pretty ok in my world.

Looks like the challenge is going to come down to the winner of Iowa and Florida State. Iowa wins, the Big Ten wins, Florida State wins, it's a tie.

Agreed. He was actually pretty great outside of his shooting. As far as this season goes, his shooting was actually pretty average for him. Which is sad, but I digress again.

Also, I believe I heard that Syracuse won 61 of the last 62 in the Carrier Dome against non-conference unranked opponents. Not sure if that was the exact number but it was something close to that.

Iowa's going to win. B10 win.

ETA My bad. Some FSU player just made a three while laying on the court. Still a game.

Running out of bounds to receive a pass only to have the player who caught it then inbound it seems like it shouldn't be legal. I know it is and the Badgers did it against Maryland like 15 years ago to win the game but that just seems like a player willingly running out of bounds, which should probably be a turnover.

Easily my biggest question/concern is if Bo can get by all season playing only two guards.

Koenig and Showalter pretty much never leave the court unless one gets in foul trouble and even then, Bo will replace the guy with one of his forwards

Get into conference play and lets say Koenig gets two fouls inside the first 10 minutes, will Bo play Showalter the rest of the half as the only guard even though he struggles to handle the ball, much less run the offense?

Koenig drew his 4th foul tonight around the 7 or 8 minute mark and Bo replaced him with Thomas. Against a team like Syracuse who plays zone all game, not having any PG or ball handler wasn't a huge deal, but against a team who pressures the ball hard would be a bigger problem.

Great win. The D and rebounding are really coming around. Cut down on TOs and learn to finish, and things look much better.

Big Ten best conference again.

Pritzl is almost back to health. He'll be in the rotation assuming he gets up to speed defensively. That will really help space the floor.

Additionally, I'm digging Nigel at the point.

It' was easier to play Nigel as a quasi point-forward against a Syracuse team who plays zone all game. They don't really pressure the ball I just have a concern that there isn't anyone on the roster who Bo is willing to play PG if Koenig either needs rest or gets in foul trouble, especially against teams who pressure the ball and even could press some.

With the new freedom of movement rules, more fouls get called. It's likely inevitable that there will be multiple games during the season where Koenig gets in foul trouble and that will leave the backcourt without anyone who can handle the ball well, much help run the offense.

Is Hill so bad that Bo won't even trust the kid to play him say 5-10 minutes a game to let Koenig rest a bit and/or if Koenig gets in foul trouble?

If Hill can't produce the 5 minutes of passable defense each half, that allowed Tim Jarmusz and Jason Chappell to be starters on better teams, he must be terrible.

Didnt see the game, but a quick look at the box and this seemed surprising - Badgers outrebounded them 51:25? Wow. Syracuse had one guy with more than 4 rebounds and Wisconsin had 5 guys with 6+. Destroyed.

Defense is what he's known for. He's fast and can handle the ball. These are his bare minimum attributes, and the one for backup pg. All I can deduce then is, in Bo's eyes, he can't be reined in offensively to be a minimalist pg at this time. His comments last season did indicate ego, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if you have near the ability to back it up. The extreme case of the gap majorly adversely affecting a team right now is old Kobe w/ the Lakers. Either way, when the schedule lightens here toward the end of non conference, I hope Bo kicks the tires on him, Pritzl, and uses those as opportunities to develop some of the other young guys. So long as we aren't having a Western Illinois situation on our hands.

I didn't see the game tonight, but great win. Another one that should pay dividends come selection time. Happ becoming that reliable 3rd option would take some pressure off the big two. So would developing shooting. Can't double opponent's rebounds each game.

Happ played the best/worst game I've ever seen. Most of his buckets were spoon fed, He had 4 traveling calls go against him and at least one more really bad TO. He missed probably 5 or 6 chances at the rim that most college players finish relatively easily. Still... he was pretty awesome and battled away as the box score proves.

If our strength and conditioning can get the cement shoes off his feet and he learns to settle down/go up strong, he'll be at least an All-Big Ten guy before he leaves Madison.
