I'd love to see a trade involving Mr. RA. Maybe get a bit of cap space and player.

so y even pick up his option?

Because he has positive trade value with his contract.

Because they didn't want to enter the off season needing to fill 4 of the 5 spots in the rotation.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

yet we are barely into the off season with RA as our number 3 guy and only one catcher who really shouldn't be catching RA at all. These things could've been seen coming no?

- Ross atkins will be named GM shortly

- Jays are expected to sign a couple of journey man back-up catchers who will compete with organizational talent during Spring Training for the back-up spot to Russ Martin. Also will look at waiver wire at conclusion of spring training, with Martins salary increasing substantially YOY do not want to invest more on back-up position.

- At Winter meetings team will continue to talk trade involving current big league pieces emphasis on improving farm depth as well as big league roster, looking for controllable players. Edwin and Bautista will not be traded during the off-season, should Jays fall out of contention look for a dead-line deal, as players would then be more likely to waive 10-5 rights.

- Loup, and Jenkins currently penciled in on big-league bullpen along with Sanchez/Chavez, Cecil and Osuna, with strong performance likely needed from Tepera, Schultz. and Venditte

- Dellabar has fallen out of favour with Gibbons, look for him to be released or request a release should he not be on the big-league roster

- Will also be bringing in veteran ex-closers as well as reclamation projects to compete for a bullpen spot during spring training

- Have had dialogue with Lowes agent, however Lowe is looking for a guaranteed multi-year deal while Jays are more inclined on a 1 year deal with a club option

Club payroll is at approx $130 mil including arb eligible players. Ownership does not intend to go over $140mil this year, look for GM to keep some wiggleroom for deadline in case of contention, or sell-off to bring 2017 opening day payroll to approx 105-110 million.

Sounds like the makings of a terrible off-season. It's like they're working on a team that is coming off a 75-win season one-year into a rebuild rather than a team coming off the heels of a legit championship run.

I'll reserve losing hope in this team, but so far every-effing-thing coming outta this team since the run has been utterly disappointing and makes this team look like a joke.

This sounds bloody awful. It really sounds like they don't believe in the roster and are hoping for an implosion that allows them to rebuild at the deadline.

They should be going big this year. Take money from the 2017 budget if you have to. We need more pitching.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

If that's the case, why don't they just let local boy George Kottaras try out for the job. He used to be Wakefield's personal catcher, so he can catch the knucler, and his offensive stats have arguably been better than Thole. He was on the Bison's at the end of last season but I see he had elected for free agency last month.

George Kottaras is a better hitter than Josh Thole.... that does not say much though :x
I am better than Thole. You are better than Thole. Anyone is better than Thole.

I guess it just came down to who Dickey was most comfortable with.
