Rebounding is going to be a problem but relatively speaking Detroit isn't quite as dangerous as their OReb% suggests. The key is getting a body on Drummond so he doesn't get offensive tip ins. If he does secure the offensive rebound then foul the hell out of him. He's shooting 37% from the line this year so basically a stealth hack-a-Drummond. Actually, the pistons as a team can't shoot. League worse TS% and slightly worse than The 2014-15 Hornets.

Hawes should have a big role this game using 6 fouls and dragging Drummond out of the paint on defense.

Wow, this guy is a beast, SVG is no kidding.

A taller Big Ben? He isn't blocking a lot of shots tho.

I have watched quite a few pistons games this season, and IMO they just do not have the personnel. They have Drummond who is a force like no other, draws so much attention inside, but no one can hit a shot on there team. Horrific team shooting reminiscent of Charlotte last year. Smart teams will beat Detriot, just foul Drummond every time he touches it inside and allow the perimeter players to chuck. We also have multiple floor spacers to pull Drummond away from the basket, and zeller who could hopefully make him work through cuts and face up drives. Think this should be a relatively easy win Hornets 111 Pistons 98

Our starting unit is playing like one of the tops in the league but our bench is by far the worst. Jackson and Drummond are the two main pieces though obviously.

Cody needs to pull lots of those awkward drives to the rim and get Drummond in foul trouble.

And Charlotte has a good bench. It's going to be fun watching Drummond do his thing, even though I'm rooting against him.

Sounds like a dangerous way of thinking. They don't have great shooters, but they do have shooters. You have just watched them when they're cold I guess. Morris, Ilyasova, Jackson, KCP, Blake, Tolliver can get hot and make threes any time.

They just won three straight, (probably gonna be four) two against quality teams.

The opposite of the Hornets. Their bench is top 5 and the last 10 games #1 in the league. Starters are about average but I think that'll improve with Jefferson out.

So, serious question for your game thread:

Why is your defense good? Coaching? The personnel doesn't look that impressive, especially with MKG out, but the numbers don't lie.

60% coaching, 40% players
coach emphasizes defensive rebounding, and low TOs, hornets lead both in these two categories in the league, by these two, you reduce opponents possessions, definitely make your defensive numbers looking goood
although the hornets lost MKG, but their perimeter d has been solid, Walker, Batum, Lin, Hairston, Lamb are all pretty active, they play hard to stay in front, prevent penetrations... interior defense is the weakness
the offense has executed well, helped the court balance...better for D...

staff focuses on minimizing weaknesses (yeah I know, who doesn't) and prioritizes defensive rebounding to cut down on fast break opportunities. Hornets have several players with decent 1-on-1 defense for their position, and several others with good quickness and defensive want-to, and thusfar players are buying in to the system. also good size 2 through 5 even with reserves. the defense is far from impenetrable, but I do think it has the potential to get better over the course of the season. I wonder how much of an effect the Hornets' 3pt emphasis has had on changing the way teams attack, especially in the 2nd half.

Feel bad for Cody. Probably was seeing Drummond in his nightmares last night. He needs to go 200% tonight if we stand any chance at winning otherwise we won't even be able to get a defensive rebound yet alone a offensive one.

Kemba Walker missed today’s shootaround (sick), doubtful for tonight’s game
