Re: Grounded - The Spencer Hawes Thread
I think Clifford made the Frank change about 7 games in and hasn't looked back. Thus far that 2nd unit could have a revolving door of guard play and still be effective so long as Spencer and Frank are on the floor. The gushing over Lin and Lamb would reach obnoxious levels if they had these shooting numbers post-Cody for Frank swap: 51% FG, 35% 3P, 83% RA, 57% eFG (Spencer).
In a lot of ways the Hawes/Frank combination symbolizes the good stuff fans miss while they ball gaze like it's a shiny object.

MA, there's no need to stereotype or mock portions of our fan base to make a valid point about the Hawes / Frank rotation, let's try to knock that off please.

I respect what you're trying to do but we disagree on this. With very few supporters the mocking of certain players like Hawes and PJ goes largely unchecked, right up to and including wishing injury upon them. In my opinion the concrete data I take time to provide, along with the occasional interjected conflict, has helped reduce the overall tone of the standard group-think.
I haven't been warned by a moderator before and this is now two times within 1 week on the same forum. Perhaps I've been too earnest a contrarian trying to provide another perspective. I'll cease.

It's one thing to provide another perspective, which is very valuable. It is another to mock other perspectives, which is not appropriate and the sort of thing we are trying to stay away from.
I appreciate your perspective, as do many others, and I think I validated your data in my previous post. With that said, the rule of critique the data / argument, not the poster should still apply. I have made similar posts to others on here, that rule should apply equally to all, including mods.

Gotta admit, Hawes has played decent recently.

Don't cease, MA! We would miss your insights.
Yosemiteben's responsibility is to try to get everyone to talk nice to each other. Your role is to be contrarian, and provide engaging discussion. Do not cease.

This is outrageous. I am outraged by this obviously controversial and inflammatory post.

Re: Grounded - The Spencer Hawes Thread
I'm starting to come around to the idea of Spencer supplanting Cody in our starting lineup. I think Spencer is a very good decision maker with the ball in his hands, and I don't feel like Frank plays well with Spencer because they overlap so much in their skill sets. For all that Marv is bringing to our team, playmaking by finding teammates is definitely not a part of his tool kit, so I like him playing alongside Hawes. I think Kemba can use all the playmaking help he can get with our starting group, even when we get Batum back.
I also like Cody next to Frank a lot more, because it allows Frank to be more aggressive and have the ball in his hands more often. I don't have a strong opinion on who starts, but I like pairing Hawes with Marv and then pairing Cody with Frank. I want Cody to be able to focus on cutting to the basket and using his quickness to score, rather than sitting on the perimeter without being respected for his shot trying to work passing lanes.

I'd be fine with Hawes starting over Cody. I still feel Cody isn't strong enough to deal with playing starting center and is best suited as the first big off the bench.
We also need to address the Kemba-Lin-PJ-Marvin trainwreck of a lineup that keeps getting us into trouble to start games. The 3rd Q explosion from last night should help their overall rating, but one good quarter out of 20 isn't good enough... but that argument is for a different thread.

Re: Grounded - The Spencer Hawes Thread
I think with Batum out, we definitely need another passer out there with Lin and Kemba. Cody, PJ and Marvin are all way too one-dimensional on offense.

Re: Grounded - The Spencer Hawes Thread
I still wouldn't want Hawes starting full time. His offensive skillset isn't as needed when Batum is healthy and his defense is still really bad, although it is probably better than Al's. If the choice was between Spencer and Al, I'm at the point where I would definitely take Spencer, but I still like Cody as our starter given the pieces we have. I'd be more open to starting Spencer when MKG comes back, but either way, I think an extended stretch of Hawes starting would ultimately drive us all insane. I don't have much trust in him and he isn't going to consistently play as well as he did last night.
I am still wanting Frank to start over Marv for the same reason some people want Hawes to start.

Maybe my proudest moment on this board. I thought it went unnoticed until BigSlam quoted me.
