The attention to detail is second to none. Think about it, every exotic dish, the selection of chamber music, the whimsical dialogue - its all intentional, its all meant to convey something, and as Will eloquently puts it, every brutal choice has elegance and grace.

The mise-en-scene is like nothing else that has been done. And it's not just for "atmosphere" or "tone", it actually ties all the aspects of the show. The exotic dishes play a similar role to the crime scenes in the show, and they're more than just double entendres.

Truly, its any film studies student/enthusiasts dream. I've only barely looked into how much they've put into it (the food blog and some interviews) and its astonishing how they've crafted it. Really hope they can get back to it someday.
But in his home dwelling...the hi-top faded warrior is revered. *Smack!* The sound of his palm blocking the basketball... the sound of thousands rising, roaring... the sound of "get that sugar honey iced tea outta here!"

Does anyone know what the current record is for East vs West, and is there any way to quickly access that information?

East is 63-59 vs West. Don't know of a site that has it directly. But for example http://espn.go.com/nba/standings has conference record for each team. I just copied those standings into excel and computed it there. If you set the spreadsheet up properly once, it's really just copy&paste to get the East vs West record.

I think the NBA world is mostly missing out on a sleeping giant in the Spurs. Lost in the sight of what the Warriors are doing, the Spurs are having an incredible season of their own. That defense! And its not like their offense isn't great as well. And once Danny Green re-finds his shot.....

Obviously the Warriors are playing at all-time great level, but in almost any other year we would be in awe of what the Spurs are doing. And really I don't think we give nearly enough attention to just how freaking good the Spurs have been for just an absurd length of time. I mean it starts before Tim Duncan, but the Tim Duncan era Spurs are really really remarkable.

It's funny, I just saw something earlier that really helps put the bold in perspective:

That's just sustained dominance, no other way around it. And awesome to see dallas right there, too.

In or out: this is the best team of the Duncan era?

Too soon to say, but I absolutely think they have a shot to be.

Sam Perkins once said, "Get your head right with Ball" For some reason that has always stuck in my head and I always thought if I wasn't lazy and did a basketball blog/podcast I'd go with it.

Yes, RIP. Sad to hear after researching him in the top 100 project, and really coming away impressed with what he did for the progression of the game. He had a great career in his own right, too regardless of era. He lived a long life, though.

More sad news from yesterday: Hot Rod Williams is battling cancer that has spread and is currently in intensive care. He’s only 53 years old. Good article by Terry Pluto about his career after the news came out:

Emmy-nominated filmmaker Brett Rapkin has teamed up with eight-time NBA All-Star Steve Nash and his Meathawk Productions to fast-track a feature film detailing the brilliant yet tragic life and career of NBA Hall of Famer “Pistol” Pete Maravich, TheWrap has learned.

Rapkin recently optioned Maravich’s life rights from his estate under his Podium Pictures banner and has begun writing the screenplay. Nash will produce with Rob Goodrich, Ezra Holland and George Roy.

Dolph's death is certainly sad, but I'm a lot more saddened by Hot Rod's condition. I mean - Schayes was really old, so it's not exactly a surprise, but Williams is about the same age as Jordan, Ewing, Olajuwon, Karl Malone, Stockton, Drexler, Barkley, those guys...Damn. :noway: F*ck cancer.

By the way - how is Michael Cooper doing? Last year, I heard he had tongue cancer. Any updates?

Right, like i said, schayes lived a long life. When you’re just going about your normal day and see the news pop up about relatively young guys like hot rod, though, it’s pretty depressing. The Moses news was especially sad because I had just seen him on TV at the HOF ceremony the weekend before he died. He was laughing and video bombing someone else’s interview.

I had forgotten about cooper. A quick search shows that he seems to be doing ok. Had surgery and hosted a bball camp in mid october.

IF it is true that the NBA forced Colangelo on the Sixers it is a classic case of treating the symptom and not the disease. NBA teams will always have an incentive to tank if there is (i) RBI, (ii) Salary Cap, (iii) revenue sharing and most importantly (iv) a Player's Draft. Promotion/Relegation would do wonders for North American sports.

Currently we deride a team if they have the 9th best record in the NBA over a five year span as a treadmill team with fans calling for them to get the worse record in the league ("blow it up"). This is because NA sports cartel set up ensures there is no real consequence for losing and fact huge rewards for doing so. As a result fans have developed a title or bust mindset that is harmful.

In reality having the ninth best record in basketball is a tremendous accomplishment that should be celebrated not derided. Promotion/relegation gives every team something to play for and makes every game meaningful. I doubt it would ever happen but I would love for NA sports to go that route.

I am confident that the salary cap and players draft will be severely weakened because of the growing popularity of European basketball.

RE: Promotion/relegation. What does that mean? Does that mean the best teams that didn't make the playoffs get the best chance at the 1st pick? Because that'd be awesome.
